Thunderbird Club

Hi all! Been a while. I've just recently returned to Bird ownership after sorting out some financial issues at home, and purchased a wonderful specimen from a fellow TBer.

Question that I'm sure has been answered numerous times: Where can I find a black pickguard for a Gibby Bird that *also* has the Bird emblem on it? Most legit custom pickguard places I've asked tell me that it's a copyright issue, so now I'm just waiting around for one to pop up on Reverb and other places. I wish I could simply pull the guard off of one of those Epi birds with the black guard, but I'm guessing it won't fit properly. Any advice?
I don't know about the pickguard question, but welcome home!

I've been trying to find some nice alternative PG's for my Thunder and Fire 'birds but keep running into the same issue... no emblems :sour:

I haven't taken pics yet, but I can lazily link to the listing :)

SOLD - 2013 Gibson Thunderbird, Custom Modified, RARE
Hey @Band Mom , first, congrats on the beautiful 'Bird!!!
If I may, what is it that makes it so RARE? I often see stuff like this in the classifieds and can never figure out if it's an attempt at marketing, bad info on the seller's part or just flat out BS to try to lure the unsuspecting. I'm NOT saying that's what happened in your case!!! I'm just curious about the validity of the claim of rarity.

I think the fact that it's been loaded with upgrades (Thunderbuckers, custom bridge, hipshot tuners, etc) make it distinct from your usual Bird listing. I don't think it's really rare in a collector's sense, but for someone that's looking for a specific list of upgrades, it definitely makes it unique.

Of course, you could just modify most any modern Bird to match this one, but it would probably cost a lot more. Besides, it came with all the stock components should I ever want to switch things out, but the upgrades made the bass more appealing, at least to me.

Those are some very cool upgrades.

I guess people are confusing Rare and Unique. I just hate seeing ads where the seller is presenting all sorts of factually incorrect info and clearly made up stuff and, on top of it all calls it Rare.

In one of the most recent case that I've seen, someone is claiming that they have a '1 of 100 basses made' in a color that the bass was never mass produced, in a year they didn't make that bass in a country that didn't make that bass in anymore. It's clearly a cheaper brand body (who DID/ DOES make that color) with either an original neck or one counterfeited to make it look that way. The story they spin about the supposed history in their ad is longer than the list of features that they give of the instrument for crying out loud! :eyebrow:

I saw them 7/17/73...……..Still the worst concert I've ever attended, and that includes walking out on RATT. They were beyond incoherent, sloppy and stupidly boring live.
As a studio band I like some of their music, most of it was grossly overplayed on Seattle's FM radio so I'm pretty burned out on them. For me the studio version of "When the Levee Breaks" is the band's high point.

So, I'm not the only one to question "greatest rock band ever":eyebrow:

I think live was not the best way to enjoy their music, as a studio band it's a different story, I think they were much better with production - In particular Bonham's playing and recorded sound, I think it's great and JPJ was really the guy that got it all together, even if he gets no credit for it.

While it is the general consensus that LZ was not a great live band, they did have some great live performances and thankfully there were enough bootleggers out there to capture them... The stuff from MSG for the Song Remains the Same is awesome as were performances from the LA Forum.

I know everyone's tastes vary but come on, they are rock Gods and living legends.
