Oh how I miss AMC and their innovative designs...

All car makers had their questionable designs. And actually, the Gremlin with the 6 cylinder was fun to drive.
The Gremlin was 1.000 times better looking than the K cars.

Not on the upright. Open strings are how some of us hacks figure out where we ought to be instead of where we are. People who actually practice and have other strange and quaint ways don't have that issue.

Yeah but @Engle didn't mention strings. He said 'open stings' -- like you find on a bee's bum.

'Matches' was quite a popular indoor game when I was a student. Hold the match perpendicular to the matchbox striker and flick it at someone across the room. The last time I ever played, my match flew across the room and lodged in the particularly furry sock of a lad and kept burning. He looked mildly aggrieved. I have never done it again.

In about 1979, I was under the influence of a chemical substance with a guy we called The Wild Man. He got that name because he was a mild mannered professorial type, but would always manage to do something nuts. He was striking and flicking matches like you are describing, just to watch the arc of light. We were in a concrete stairwell, so it shouldn't have been an issue. Unfortunately, there was a trash bin full of paper. He flicked one into that. It's amazing how fast you can stop seeing rainbows and thinking about the cosmos when you need to. I found a fire extinguisher and put out the flame. Then we went right back on the night's trip. Without the matches.

That was a fairly memorable moment, at least for me. I can't speak for The Wild Man.

Tried some GHS Precision Flats on the VP at rehearsal last night. Really nice big sound. I really a flats person so they work well for me. I can certainly live with it, but will likely try something else, because I can. I find I favor just the neck PU on this bass. Using both sucks too much of the mids out. Works good for pick though.
