Thunderbird Club

If you ever have to play the intro to, "For Whom the Bell Tolls", you'll appreciate the NR.
LOL! Of all the songs that you could have picked! That's the one song that I actually prefer to play on my (reverse) TBird over all my other basses. The neck transition is perfect for to put my hand in perfect position to start at the 19th fret :) Other neck transitions kinda just get in my way but not the TBirds!

That's just crazy talk. :roflmao:

While I can stretch and reach the 19th on my R's, it's so much easier on my NR.

I'd love to see what you mean by, "The neck transition is perfect for to put my hand in perfect position to start at the 19th fret"

I'm not ball-bustin' here, I am intrigued, curious, gotta know, what am I missing?

I'll take pics when I get home to illustrate. If it helps to make my point, if you ever played a bolt on EpiBird, that neck transition stopped me dead in my tracks. accurately reaching above the 15th fret was not possible for me. That's why the one that I bought was packed up and sent back within an hour of arriving at my office.
I wanted a silverburst Bird and the only one available was the bolt on version. I hated it and resigned myself to not getting a silverburst Bird without having to pay for a refinish.... until I lucked into my SS that had already been refinished

Ok, ok... it's a little bit easier on the SS, I have one as well but still not ideal, IMO. I didn't realize you were talking about your shorty(Hey now!). Still the NR gives you all kinds of space and no need to stretch and reach. If you get an NR, that'll be your go to bass for that end of the fret-board. Guaranteed! :smug:

I use basses tuned in E, D, & C# in my heavy band. It can get confusing when I’m in D tuning across the board, but the guitarist only has his E dropped to Do_O
Or you are in E tuning but have a bass X-tender that may or may not be flipped to D. So, you have to remember if it's E or drop D at any given moment.

It looks nice, but... The pickup cover is on backwards, and that bugs the crap out of me. Plus, the covers look brand new, and the other hardware has been there for a while. Could it be an Epi? I didn't know Gibson ever made a "Limited Edition" anything like that. The case looks like it could be about the right vintage, based upon the small differences between the '91, the '01, and the '15 that live in my flock. It looks nice, but I'm highly skeptical that it's a Gibson.

Nope, I'm talking about my Epi VP

The silverburst discussion should have been in a separate paragraph or post :) Intended to be 2 different thoughts,

Total refin and not done by Gibson. Either this dude got scammed or he's trying to pull a scam.

The previous owner may have messed up any collector value ( if any ) with the bridge and pickup cover modifications.???? Sweet looking bass though.

Totally sketchy looking bass, IMO.

Yup. Limited 'cos they aren't making any more 95s.:smug:

Nailed it!

Fishy.
What's with the hardware.

I don't buy it. No way that came off the Gibson production line or their Custom Shop.

Look what I found being sold on Etsy.

The all black back and the loss of the headstock model/date stamp are clear indicators of a refin. Same thing with the "nickel" and chrome hardware combo. I hate to think the seller is looking to rip someone off but maybe they truly believe what they're saying.

It was buried in the back yard under where the dog pees for a while. The seller forgot to bury the covers, too.

The wiring is neat and well done, but it doesn't look like Gibson wiring. As far as I can remember, the stock pickups post-'89 have a braided shield/ground that's not a separate wire. It makes for a little weirdness grounding everything, at least for me, because you have to peel back the shield and solder it to whatever you are grounding it to. Or that's what I did anyway. Beats me if that's what you are supposed to do. Chinabuckers work the same way, so we know those pickups aren't Chinabuckers. I don't know what the leads from anything else look like.
