Thunderbird Club

It folds up. Each of those hangers has a spring loaded sleeve that lets them fold and be secure when they are unfolded. If you go with the two guitar version, it's a little smaller. As far as I can tell, it doesn't take up much more room than a single hanging stand, and it surely takes up less room than a single stand that has a cradle at the bottom.

I lived in NYC for about six years back in the early and mid-1980s, so I completely understand the space and portability by subway issues you face.

Any recommendations for portable stands for the Thunderbird? I need this for rehearsal spaces and gigs. The Axe-Handler stings-out version looks like it would be great, and fit easily in my case, but I'd be worried doing this on hard floors. Rehearsal spaces usually have carpet.
Hercules all the way. I got stupid lucky one day and found a single on Craigslist for $15 bucks! Is it to short? No way. Wierd body shape? No problem. Portable? Absolutely yes.

Imo do it, you wont regret it.

I've had this model Hennesy (now On-Stage) for five years. Never a problem with any bass, from Ps to Tbirds to Explorers, 4, 5, 8 and 12s, over 100 have been on this stand one time or another. Finish safe foam.

Found this at a pawn shop yesterday priced at 100$. Messaged offering 60$. Went to see it today, after much debate on weather i should get it or not, they gave me a 7 day trial & let me have it for 50$. If i don't like it, i can bring it back & have 50$ credit in store. But man, i was really scared about lots of things going wrong at my place ( i plugged it into my carlsbro hornet 45 combo that's now just the speaker connected to a 1/4 jack 1x12 speaker) & i gotta say: I love the 70's! the tone is massive, clear & very nice. HTe jack for the footswitch is gone, but i don't really care for it since i got my mxr m80 which has distortion & clean in it so i can bounce back & forth. But there's hardly any info on this as to how many watts it hass, but it's loud, only put it up to 1-2 n volume & it blows away everything! The distortion is really nice too, very clear & agressive bite to the instruments. Gonna play it this week some more to get accustomed to it more & see if i wanna keep it. I'm leaning towards yes :D Am also going to check out a 90's SWR goliath 4x10 cab being sold for 160$. It'll be cool to have since i'm always looking for a 4x10 (& is what i prefer to have live) & it's pretty much a steal at 160$ in good condition

Cool piece of retro gear...

Love the simplicity of the controls too... :)

Thanks, all, for the stand recommendations. I'm sure they're great, but even though they fold up, I would still find them too much to carry around public transportation along with my bass. And they certainly wouldn't fit in the bass bag pocket.

I bet they'd fit in a photographer's tripod bag that could be slung over your shoulder.

I had one of these that came with a matching 115 cab. It was from 1974 and came from the original owner. Got the pair for $50! Great little amp and pretty loud too! I think on the back near the speaker jack it says 60 watts. Way louder than that though. I kept it for a while as a practice amp and was never disappointed. I sold it to fund other gear, but it was cool to have.

Indeed! 50$ is a steal for me for something this vintage. My dad used to own an 80's model peavey of some sort & he didn't really like the tone, it was decent by him, but never great! I love simplicity, clearly with only volumes & tones or just a killswitch :D But i don't really know nor can i hear just yet what the presence control does to affect the sound, but i'm sure i'll figure it out soon enough.

It's much more than just a practice amp at 60 watts! it does say 8 ohms at 60 watts, but near the power cable is written 240 watts (& i've browsed loads of forums to figure out the wattage - always varied between 60-300 watts for this model). I don't think i'll ever sell it anytime in the next 6 years! I just got back from checking out the SWR 4x10 cab & it sounds great. There's only one speaker that doesn't "work" but he's gonna have a look at it with his dad. Best case scenario is that it's just disconnected (or badly connected) & it works, or i'll have to swap out one speaker which isn't terrible. For 160$, a 90's SWR Goliath cab power handling 500 watts @8 ohms isn't bad! & the guy is super friendly which is always good!

I love the sound of old heavy solid state amps. I have been playing through Acoustic Control amps for more than 30 years, and that's pretty much all I use for bass guitar. I have a Carvin MB12 that works well for the upright as long as I also use an fDeck, but given the choice, everything goes through the old iron.
