Thunderbird Club

There is a set of Gibson Tbird pups for sale. What would I gain over stock 08 Epi Tbird pups?

Sometimes Epi makes a good pup.....

PS - I have taken Gibson pups out and put in SDs many times, cuz I like em better!

I am clueless about Epi Tbird pups,it's been too long since I had one. The 5 string I'm selling has P/J. However, I picked up a cheapy IV to "stay in the club"!

Just trying to be that helpful sort of guy...

Epiphone Thunderbird Classic IV Pro 4 string Bass Guitar Alpine White

4 days left, no bids. If it were me, I'd snipe it with a $400 bid hoping to get it for less. Starting bid is just shy of $300 with an additional $35 for shipping.

I'm about 2 months from being able to splash on another bass. To bad, looks nice and yeah the price is right! Thanks for the heads-up though.

Followed me home is kinda the truth. Kinda. When I see one on FleaBay with a low opening bid price, I put in that low opening bid, figuring somebody else will bid it up. So far, I have got three out of the five by winning a losing bid. I gotta cut it out, though, because saving all this money is going to make me broke!

Chinabuckers came yesterday, so I will be playing with the '91 and a soldering iron this weekend, most likely. Then the conversion to vintage looking chrome project will be complete.

The Gibson pickups will sound totally different than what comes stock in a bolt-neck Epi. You would need to do a bit of routing and cavity filling to get the pickups installed, but it's nothing super major. Lots of people have done it. The Chinabuckers that others are buying are a good option as well but you will still need to do some of the same surgery to fit those. I keep thinking about pickup up a set of those myself. Youtube should have some videos for what you would expect from the Gibson sound.

Lol I take a different direction.
Its called Stalk and Pounce. I "watch" an item and seconds before the auction ends I pounce on it.

I dont typically mess with auction listings too much, but If I didn't already have one, I'd put that on my watch list.

I actually like the stock pickups that come with a bolt-on Epi. Those are completely different from a Gibson or higher end Epi, but they are good in their own right, in my opinion. That won't spare the bolt-on from Dimarzio One insertion surgery, though.

So what is the difference, can you quantify that for those of us who don't know? I had noticed that my Classic 4 passive has a different sound (more Gibson T-Bird-ish IMO) from my Pro V 5-string active but I'd assumed that was because one is passive and one active, not the pickups per se. Love the sounds I get from both though, personally I'm not seeing a reason I should put different pups in either.

Sorry to stray from that white eBay T-bird...This is my silverburst special edition run. I think they made these from 2009 to 2012 give or take a year either way. I think they were exclusive to Musicians Friend and Guitar Center. Mahogany body. Chrome hardware. I added strap locks and Labella Flat wounds. At some point I stepped on the cord and the whole connector broke out through the wood, so I cut out a piece of pick guard to "repair" it. I used to have a P-bass and a J-Bass, they both got stolen. After saving up a bunch of aluminum cans, I bought this Bass used, and it was like new. I've since beat it up a bunch. but love it. Also Talk Bass tells me I'm a ten year member and this is my first post.
