There was no bass guitar IN The Doors*. That's why I refer to their 'bass player' as Claude Rains-"The Invisible Man" from the movie of the same name.

They didn't start producing basses until August of 1976. Their first year or so of products were all hybrid SS/tube amplifiers, IIRC.

That makes sense. It's only directly grounded in parallel mode. In series, the lead that would be grounded is going into the bridge pickup instead. It could be the switch itself, the solder joint of the upper right switch lead in that diagram, or the ground at the net pickup's volume pot. Make sure those two solder joints are good, with good wire contact. If it's still a problem, it's likely the switch itself (hopefully not!)
The solder joint at the pot is the likeliest suspect if you touched that before instead of just cutting the lead.
Someone needs to make a Flamingobird bass. A Thunderbird, but with the lower horn extended and curving around toward itself. Available in burgundy mist metallic, Real Flamingo[tm] pink, hot pink, and pinkburst.
Now I kind of want a metal-flake pinkburst bird.

Me, too! I spent hours youtube stalking her. I've also listened to a lot of version of GS, and there are some great ones with all sorts of people singing her parts, but I can't recall anyone I liked better than her.
I hear you. The version from Havana Moon concert in Cuba is likely the next best as far as I'm concerned. Like you, I've listened to many versions. Many, like a lot of Stones live versions of anything, border on sounding like a sub par bar band.

Whoever mentioned the Havana Moon (Cuba) version of Gimme Shelter[1], that was amazing. Everyone was on, from the rhythm section to the vocals to the guitars. Keith and Ronnie were always on the ragged edge of mayhem, but never off the cliff. Perfect for that song.
