According to Whatculture.com these are the 10 greatest vocal performances in classic rock history:
10. The End - The Doors
9. Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
8. Runnin With The Devil - Van Halen
7. God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
6. Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
5. Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
4. Because - The Beatles
3. Child In Time - Deep Purple
2. Dream On - Aerosmith
1. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

I don't disagree that those are all great songs, but I'm sure I could easily come up with another 10.

So just sticking with the list - Can you name the bass used on the original recording of each song? Any birds? Possibly The Who?

I'm pretty sure #1 was a Stingray and #4 was a Hofner. Was #10 a Rhodes keyboard?

Not a huge list fan, but hard to argue with those being on someone’s list. Wouldn’t be mine, but some great vocal performances.

I think Merry Clayton’s work on Gimmie Shelter is fabulous. Maybe the best of the lot.

Doubt any Tbirds on any of those.

Pretty sure that’s the Ric on Because.

Now that I think about it, #1 couldn't have been a Stingray. Leo didn't release the Ray until 1976 and Bohemian Rhapsody came out in 1975 IIRC. The first Queen song with the Ray was probably Another One Bites the Dust in 1980.

no, the Alembic came during Physical Grafitti, four albums later (not counting the live album)..the 8 string Alembic came for Presence, the album after that..

Thanks. Just looked him up and he only played on most of the last album, so The End has no bass guitar, right?

just realised it’s a reissue so wouldn’t have been this bird but I think he was known to use a 76 at some point...

definitely, Hamilton played Birds as well, in fact he played a reverse II when I saw them in the early 80’s.....just not sure that’s what he used for recording that track...he was often seen with a sunburst P when they first became popular...

Just use an ohm meter to read across the outer lugs of the old ones.

I’ve tracked down my issue to the neck pickup not being grounded properly, but only in series? Weird, maybe.
I’ll tack on a nice ground tonight, change strings, put on the knobs and be ready for some TOANZ clips tomorrow night for you.
