There are basses, and there are Thunderbirds!
Guys....
I'm still trying to wrap my head around different wiring option for my Pro-IV and Pro-V and still maintaining the classic 3 pots in a row, as I prefer this aesthetically for the 2 + 2 pots in a row...
I've been looking into the configuration of the Gibson 2015 with the two mini switches, but need some input on understanding the wiring.
This article describes the 8 switching options on a Gibson 2015:
How to Get Eight Different Bass Sounds from the 2015 Thunderbird Bass
And here are some pictures of the control cavity from the Gibson Thunderbird 2015 products page:
It appears to me the pickup wires are wired like this: the North finish wire (white wire) and South finish wire (green wire) are soldered to the same lug on the mini switch, the North start wire (red wire) are soldered to the center lug on the volume pots - But where do the South start wire (black wire) go? I assume they are going to ground on the side of the pot housings...
But what kind of switch is that - Is it a DPDT On-On switch?
What would happen if a DPDT On-On-On switch was used instead? I suppose that would give even more switching option (15 different), although several of these would not be that useful and either sound similar or be out of phase...
An alternative to the 2015 wiring and still maintaining the 3-in-a-row configuration, could be to add a series/parallel switch (DPDT On-On) and a 3-way pickup toggle selector (either a standard sized 3-way toggle or a mini toggle DPDT On-On-On) - Does anyone have a wiring schematic for this?
Also as I understand it - Doing the series/parallel switching puts one of the volume pots out of the circuit... I've seen wiring schematics for this, which either takes the neck volume out of the circuit or the bridge volume - Which would be the preferred way to do this?
