Thunderbird Club

Ok. I’ll tell you all now. If you believe the antibody test results, turns out my extremely heathy daughter (she lives in Boston) may have had it early on and didn’t know it. Her only symptom was a short term loss (or more like like a change in) of taste and smell before that being a symptom was widely known. But who knows for sure. I’m wearing a mask when I have to go out. It may turn out to be stupid. But what does it hurt.

They say to wear one if you have it. But unless you are getting tested daily with short turnarounds, you can’t know. So... we wear masks.

Met with my drummer and played in our studio for the first time In a long time this past week to knock some rust off. Haven’t seen the guitar players in forever, and the lead singer has been out of state living with in-laws since April. The plan is to maybe get a rehearsal in this next week.
I hear of others starting to gig already?
Thoughts on rehearsal?
Thoughts on gigging?

It seems to me that any situation indoors carries a risk that the singer(s) and horn players may spread it if they have it - even without symptoms.

We're in our mid 50's, but my wife is very worried that she will get hit hard if she gets it. She has slightly high blood pressure and pretty bad luck any time a medical professional says "there's a small chance...X could happen".

Another personal factor is I'm starting a new job on Monday (still working from home).
I've decided to let others be the early adopters in this situation. I'm going to wait a month and re-evaluate.

Jamkazam is getting better and they actually have a live event happening tomorrow afternoon:

I would expect horns to be very little problem so long as you stay away from spit valves and puddles. The problem is allegedly that the little buggers cling to droplets. But those should be clinging to the walls of the myriad traps in a horn.

Your daughter's situation is going to prove more and more common. And being careful for yourself or others is not stupid in my book.
Stupid is not playing a Thunderbird when that's an option.

Latest update on the Jack Casady bass Pelham Blue refinish by Chicago Fret Works!
Here's Troy Anderson, of CFW, showing her off after the reassemble of the hardware!
I get her back Monday morning, stay tuned...
(seriously considering having my ebony Epi Thunderbird VP refinished in PB)

That's just awful. I know you must be heartbroken, but I think MCF might take it off your hands and relieve you of that catastrophe.;)

Stunning comes to mind.

I still have my original Leathur records version (3rd pressing I believe). I still enjoy it for the rawness and the hunger, and Live Wire is still a favorite song of mine all these decades later.
No idea what pressing mine is, but it's the Leathur Records version. I didn't realize before today that there was an umlaut in "Love."

I can not stop staring at this. Pure porn. A VP refin in PB would be awesome. Pat Wilkins is closest pro refinish shop to me. I know @JIO uses him. I’m seriously thinking of requesting a quote to find out what it would cost to have him do one.

I've had Pat do many finishes (I'd have to look up how many) for me over about 7 years. You won't find anyone who delivers like he does. Marty Bell, also in SoCal is also highly recommended. Of course his specialty is sparkle finishes, but he also does more conventional finishes as well. They have both done some amazing finishes for me. It's not nitro - but I personally do not see how nitro vs poly (2020 poly done by master finishers) is anything but an esoteric fantasy as far as a quality finish goes. If having a nitro (lacquer) finish blows your skirt up - go for it, but if you want a beautiful durable finish... And aside from the exemplary work - Pat and Marty are two of the nicest people to deal with - directly, not through a go-between.

I’m considering getting my little gang of 7 together again.
Complications: 3 x 70yo; 1 couple with a 2 yo, the other women have health issues.
Plus me.
We practice in the local Vinnies HQ, so likely people with health issues, plus indigenous people (higher risk group) will be in and out of there most days during office hours.

I think I’ll delay it again.

Sucky choice, but wise.

People here and local to me sometimes rave about Sweetwater. One friend even ended up featured in their catalog after they heard how a bunch of us chipped in to give him his dream guitar (Gretsch White Falcon, and it is one sweet axe) the day he got back after two weeks in another country.
I've always been happy with AMS, MF, and (the past decade-ish) GC. But none of them had the Morley 20/20 VP in stock, so I went with Sweetwater thanks to all the recommendations. I have to say, the experience has been pretty awesome. The automatic two year warranty ain't bad, either. I'm not saying they're my new go to, but they went from Not really On My Radar to One Of My Faves, just like that.

Also, Morley's pre-sales support is rad. They seem to have someone watching email 24 hours a day. We'll see how ost-sales is; I have a question!

Why not, right? I still really enjoy this record.

Every time I see this record cover I immediately think of the Nikki Sixx octave run towards the end of “Too Fast For Love”! In fact I’d say that run is about my ballpark for the tone knob setting on my Thunderbird, I was doing it the other day! Personally, having the tone cranked is too trebly for my tastes, I like to be able to go...

TOO FAST TOO FAST FOR LOVE Dum Dah, Dum Dah, Dum Dah, Dum Dah, Dum Dah, Dum Dah Dum Da Da Da!!!
