Possibly a hint of good news on the Guitar Center purchase. Just got an email with tracking number indicating my "Epoch Firebird" has been shipped.

I can't wait to see what one of those looks like in person.

On the flip side, the email noted... "Your order may arrive in multiple shipments"

I guess it's possible they might ship the headstock separately from the rest of the bass.

Also concerning.

Maybe you still have time to order glue.

I used to use these in the late 70s when I first started using a pick. Mel Bay. Honestly at the time I used them because Leon (and Gary R.) used them. In fact, I have some of their picks. I hold them backwards and pick with the left top edge. I liked the scratchy sound the texture made. I generally use Fender 351 celluloid mediums now.

Generally I've been fortunate to play with people I like and respect and had good relationships with. In a very few situations I would have taken the pig hands down.

funny, I have one of Roger Glover's Hercos...I like the grooves, as much as Fender ts picks feel good, they get slippery if you start to sweat.....no fun..

Ha! That's my complaint with the fenders of late. My hands don't always get sweaty, but when they do..... I've thought about just scuffing some pic up for a little texture, but never think about it when I can fool with it.

If you know of other songs that are a must for pick playing it would be helpful if you could list a couple. I'll force myself to learn them on the Greco which just screams for a pick.

Good note - a standard tear-drop style pick can offer different tone/articulation depending on what edge is incorporated. Also how you hold the pick. Bobby Vega mostly covers the pick with his fingers so when he plucks the strings his fingers also touch. The opposite can be effectively used as well - letting a lot of the pick free to bend. There's a whole world of articulation to explore!

All have distinct pick bass - Scott Walker as well as being an amazing singer/songwriter/arranger was also a bass player so all of his stuff had great bass-lines. On the Rodriguez cut - that's the legendary Boob Babbitt on bass. And of course Sir Paul -

Good note - a standard tear-drop style pick can offer different tone/articulation depending on what edge is incorporated. Also how you hold the pick. Bobby Vega mostly covers the pick with his fingers so when he plucks the strings his fingers also touch. The opposite can be effectively used as well - letting a lot of the pick free to bend. There's a whole world of articulation to explore!

and then there's the angle at which the pick meets the string....perfectly parallel for maximum click...at full 90 deg for maximum rasp and everything in between.....endless coloring options with a pick..

Some comments(not criticisms)about the selections: According to various stories about Beach Boy recordings, they often used a UB doubling the EB line(usually Carol Kaye's). Many orchestral instrumental recordings had a guitar doubling the UB an octave higher in a staccato style. Nice to have that freedom in production. Pay the session guys one time, don't worry about it touring. 'Course these days the singer just performs-live or lipping-to the recorded track-w or w/o "live" musicians.
It's too bad Dusty couldn't sell a song. Yeah, right. What a voice. Shoulda gotten in the R&R HOF b4 she died.

Dusty was much bigger in Europe - just like Scott Walker. Both deserved much more world wide exposer/acclaim but as usual what does the GP know?

IIRC, that was one of the prototypes (I know the 12-string Ric given to George was) so I don’t know if they’d gone as far as making any left handed ones at that stage. I think it was the case of getting the instrument into a Beatle’s hands ASAP. There can’t have been many better advertising opportunities than that.
