Thunderbird Club

View attachment 860033

I've been going back and forth with my vinyl guy and here's what we've come up with. It's not an exact replica since the '76 isn't done identically but I still think it looks great. The original '76 cannot be done in vinyl. The lines are too thin.

So here is my thought on the '76. If you like it, then cool, use it. If not remove prior to sticking the vinyl down and you'd still have a Bicentennial TBird but just not the '76 model year one.

What do you think guys? I need opinions, even the ones I might not like. Remember though, the original '76 cannot be done in vinyl.

Thanks in advance for any and all input.

What's not to like - It looks awesome! :)

That's made the rounds - the bass I mean. Pretty sure sure it was JMJ's at one point.
Funny thing about Lollar, Mike Lull contacted him to make Thunderbird pickups for his basses and was turned down as Jason felt there was no market for them at the time. So Mike went to TV Jones for his pickups.

Yes, so the ad says. Pretty cool, though I'm not a NIN fan or anything. That is weird, though I suppose there isn't a massive market for Tbird pickups, I guess that's why everyone that makes them charges so much. Do you know how they sound? Are they aggressive 60ish or darker?

How it got to Australia must be a cool story.

If I can haggle him down a bit I might snag it.

I don't know what Jason based his pickups on, as noted there was a lot of variation in '60s production (Gibson QC at work!) resulting in very different sounding pups. The bass was owned by one of our club members for awhile.

ooooHHHH, I just got soooo busted. We are in the middle of some house renovations and that means I don't have the cases and basses scattered all over the place. Result: hairy eyeball from my wife. ooooHHHH! I don't think she realizes there are five Thunderbirds lurking in the house, let alone the other three or four bass guitars. :roflmao:

Heh, that's what's good about building my own basses and guitars... I have necks, bodies and parts all over the place and I always have some project going on. When a new instrument appears, my wife just figures I built it. It doesn't work for T-Birds or set-neck guitars, but she's never given me any grief about buying a guitar so far (she was almost as excited as I was when I brought the Classic IV home!) and she's actually interested in my builds, so I really don't have anything to worry about.

I have guitar bits scattered around, too. The project I have stalled on at the moment is a Tele-Bird. Firebird shaped body with Tele pickups, bridge, and neck. No need for a 7ender shaped guitar if you can build a Bird shaped one that does the same thing.

I'd like to see that project when it's done. Ever since I got the T-Bird bug, I've been thinking about building a Fenderbird, myself. Maybe an NR.

Maybe it's time for me to get the thumbs out and get it done. I want to paint it medium sparkle green like the Zombiecaster is, only done well instead of rattle can awful.

T-bird sighting last night - rockin' a bird the way it's meant to be rocked!
