So...

Anyone know where I can get an ashtray cover for a 1977 single pickup Greco Thunderbird? :D

A friend of mine is picking it up for me this week, and hopefully someone I know can bring it down from Sydney soon!

Congrats! Lovely.

One of the guys in the club here (Godofthunder59) does replica Gibson covers as do Thunderbucker Ranch, I believe. I not sure if the dimensions are exactly the same.

Question.

So the old single pickup version of the Thunderbird was the Thunderbird II, whereas the two pickup version was the Thunderbird IV.

Why was this? Was there a Thunderbird I and a Thunderbird III?
Firebird guitars came out at the same time in 1963. Their models were I, III, and VII. Thunderbirds got what was left.

Oh, its been answered alright and I've sent Larry tracings from a bunch of my Epi birds.

But the really short answer is:

Pickguard shapes and screwholes differ as night and day, and aren't interchangeable...

The Pro and the Classic Pro are probably the ones which are closest.

I am really lat to this and it may have already been answered but I have this:

Thanks, Tom. Just as I suspected... too many variables.

Ouch... thanks a lot pal... :roflmao:

...and yes, Gibson and Epiphone have really made a mess of the whole PG shape and screw hole thing haven't they?

There's also a Firebird V...

So basically were missing a Thunderbird VI to make the numbering complete! Which could either be a 3 pickup bird or a medium scaled "Bass VI" type of bird! :)

Thanks for that info.

Could you tell me if a single one of these Chinese pickups that have been spoken about would be a good candidate for a new age single pickup Tbird? Maybe a NR to avoid the Grecos.

Not placing an order but it has been floating around in my skull for a little while...
