Thunderbird Club

Yes they are on-on mini switches since it's one for each pickup to coil tap.

You could have Outer coil/humbucker/inner coil wiring on each pickup, or you could have series/parallel/single coil or even Humbucker/off/single coil. Really depends what you're after tone wise. here's a site that's useful for wiring like this Invalid Link Removed. i use it a lot when it comes to weird wiring that i'm after tone wise

Or you can have something crazy like this

Best of luck!

Sometimes great ideas die before they ever get to materialize...

Appears that eventhough the Epi Pro pickups are indeed splitable, they don't have 4 conductors, but only 3... :(

As wired from the factory only 2 conductors are used (hot + ground) - The 3rd conductor is not used, but can be used to split the humbucker into a single coil. But with a reading of only 3.45k per coil it's hardly worth the bother...

Gonna try with either one 3-way toggle + one DPDT On-On mini switch to do parallel/series switching, or two DPDT On-On mini switches, which will allow me to switch between parallel/series and also switch between pickups.

When they're in series they act as one pickup, you only have one volume at that point. It just sounds killer in a mix

For whatever reason, on mine, even if I have one pickup selected (I had the tone control removed and a pickup switch added in its place), the neck is louder than the bridge pickup. This is not the case in parallel.

You'll need an on/on switch with 6 lugs underneath

That is the case with my Jazz that is wired series/ parallel. The bridge volume is out of circuit.

Sorry for reviving a 42 pages old discussion but I just recenly found this alternative parallel/series wiring schematic on another TB thread, which may be of interest for the club.

It appears that it's actually possible to make parallel/series wiring without taking one of the voloume pots out of the equation when i series mode, as previously posted...

It still takes it out when you switch it, I have a separate switch. I got my tbird for cheap and just drilled another hole to accommodate the switch. Worse case I could wire it 2 volumes 2 tones. With stock pickups it stays in series.

Hmmm... Interesting....

This is the thread from where I lifted the diagram, and they insist both volumes work independently:

What does your 2nd switch do?

Oh, its been answered alright and I've sent Larry tracings from a bunch of my Epi birds.

But the really short answer is:

Pickguard shapes and screwholes differ as night and day, and aren't interchangeable...

The Pro and the Classic Pro are probably the ones which are closest.
I have a Goth, Pro IV, and a IV(bolt on). The dimentions listed for my three Birds fit perfectly. I was just throwing this into the mix in jopes of helping Larry with any confusion there may/may not be. Keep it, throw it away, makes no difference.

NBD has just occurred!

Thanks to Andy, I was able to snag this beauty and there isn't a scratch or a nick on her! There is one thing that isn't stock as far as I know and it's not a deal breaker for me but it makes me shake my head a bit on why it was done. Lol

Anyway, here's some pics.

So is that white paint on the edge of the headstock or did they actually remove wood?

It's silver paint. Odd that.

Edit: Now you've got me wondering, Scott. Is the headstock not supposed to be recessed on that one side where the silver paint is?
Honestly not sure I had one for about a minute can't remember oneway or the other. Either way flat black touches up easy if you are inclined. I would use Mohawk flat black.
