Thunderbird Club

The Classic IV is an awesome bass. I liked it better than the Gibson birds I A/B'd it against. Not sure why Gibson would let Epiphone make a T-Bird that so closely rivals the American made Thunderbird, but I'm glad they do!

Now make with the pics, or it didn't happen! :)

Well since Gibson has given up the ghost on basses, seems like it doesn't really matter. I'm glad we still have a great alternative to Gibson. I just wish the designers would wake up one day thinking "Oh my god what are we doing? Chrome is amazing! We need more of it everywhere!"

Chrome... is amazing... but plastic and lack of chrome is cost effective :beaver:

I prefer CHROME.

Yeah, I keep forgetting that Gibson isn't making basses this year. Has anyone heard anything further about whether this is just a temporary hiatus in production, or if they're giving up on basses altogether?

I wish you Americans felt the same way about chrome on your basses as you do about chrome on your cars :D

Did you say, "Chrome?"

A bit more found it's way onto my 08 Gibson. I bought this bridge cover which I was told was a 70s TBird cover some years ago.
I like the bridge covers as a palm rest.
There is also one of Scott's tailpieces on the way as well! More pics then.

Nice. Have you ever tried a pickup cover?

No, I worry one might get in the way as I sometimes play over the neck pickup.
Though, I do always use a pickup cover on all my single coil P Basses ( I have three) to protect the potentially flimsy pickup they have in them from damage by being knocked while playing or broken by putting a string through the side of the pickup.
The single coil P Bass pickup is a fairly delicate little flower.

I suppose "emblem" was the wrong word. I was trying to find out the what was on the headstock of the Classic IV-Pro. My confusion was the difference between the Pro-IV and the Classic IV-Pro. The Pro-IV has "T-Bird Pro" on the truss rod cover, and the Classic IV-Pro just has Epiphone on the truss rod cover. I just got a Classic IV-Pro yesterday and it's a great bass! My third bird, the first being a goth and the second being a limited release TV Silver. The Classic has them all beat by far.

Nice to hear your flock is healthy and coming along nicely... :)

All three are great birds, but the Classic Pro is in a league of its own... ;)

I have one on the chromed out 1991. It isn't an issue, but it does make the location you play a bit more definite. I generally play that one up near the neck, which gives it a rounder sound, if that makes sense. My P has a pickup cover as well. Bling is gooooood.

Is that a refin? So many of your birds are in really awesome colours.

Yes, it was a Natural finish originally but it was a wreck when I bought it, the finish was mostly gone from it and it was missing parts (notably a pickup!) so a re-fin seemed like a good idea at the time. It went thru Mike Lull's shop for the paint work, I still remember his office manager Roger Gee at the time saying I was crazy for doing it, he didn't think it was worth it. (I doubt he realized the true scarcity of unbroken '76s) Anyway, the day I came to pick it up I still remember Mike's excited voice coming from the back of the shop " Roger! Did you see this Green Thunderbird!!???.
