Well just fwiw, I've taken the proceeds from my bass sale today and bought a second-hand, in-excellent-condition GK 212 NEO cab, 8 ohms. A Yamaha PB-1 preamp/QSC USA850 Poweramp is in front of it, and I look forward to plugging a Thunderbird into that small dynamo someday soon. Until then the Gibson-offending rogue EB-3 and small company of veteran battle-axes will be filing in...

The GK NEO is killer.

Great cabs- I settled on a Neo 410, but the 212 sounds a little sweeter.

Nice... I had my eye on that cab and a Fender Bassman head at one time, but decided to go the combo route.

I played the Portuguese Holy Ghost club in Lowell several times over as many years when I was in a Portuguese band. Lol, other than that, I don't get around much!

Heh... Memories. I was in a band for about a minute that used to rehearse there. It was a rawk band, though... I did play in an Irish band once that played/practiced at the Gaelic Club in Lowell. That was about a hundred years ago.

Ya! - It's such a nice car, I almost don't want to put gear in it. Super nice leather seats and plushy interior it's quiet and rides really nice on the highway ( 80 mph on the commute) has a big sunroof, I drove to work with it open this morning with Big Country on the stereo - it's a fine ride!

Bonus points for Big Country on the stereo!

Yup! That's a great album, my fave is "Wonderland" Tony Butler is a great player!

Stuart Adamson's passing was a great loss... Loved his guitar playing in both Big Country and The Skids...

@Lo-Hz, @veebass, @DerekW , yes, got the 212 locally... funnily enough it had been sitting at the little music store up the street for 6 or 8 months!

I've got a few inexpensive bases but they're all players, each a flavor that has its personality, and the cab gets the best of all of them. I will be interested to hear a Bird through it!

Combo might have been more ideal for present purposes, I've got a heavy head on it, but still an easy carry cause it's smallish. And yeah it sounds real good... just got very lucky I think!

Funny, I was in an original band that was very influenced by old Celtic music. Had penny whistle, fiddle, rock rhythm section, sometimes squeezebox and Highland pipes. Really a fun band. I left them because I left Miami- one of the downsides of leaving there.

Tony Butler... he did some stuff with Pete Townsend too. Yeah really good player- I liked his approach, knew how to gliss up to a note and just let it hang there in the air, across a bar line. Played great rapid fire synched runs but was never in the way. Had a great ability. Is he gone too?

After deliberating on whether to get rid of my P or Classic IV now that the Greco is here, I have decided to keep both The Epi is just too good to let go of, and the better upper fret access is too useful when tuned down. And it also means I can keep the Greco in standard, which really brings out the growly top end in it.

So... Love it?

Absolutely.

It kind of feels like the perfect blend between my two favourite bass types, Precision and Thunderbird. The growl, looks, and upper mid punch of a T bird combined with the chunky neck, simplicity, and depth of a P. And the shorter scale seems to make no difference to tension or punch, but just takes off that super long feel that T birds normally have.

One day I hope to round off the flock with a Cataldo single pickup reverse, but for now I'm pretty damn satisfied between the Greco and Epi.

Was the GK NEO relatively cheap? I've been considering adding a GK 210 to my GK 410 to beef it up some. How are your fingers coming along, healing up well?

Totally agree on this! Stuart was pretty much the heart and soul of BG, not taking anything away from the other members.

Agreed, never in the way but adds some nice melody underneath. Still with us, he's actually the same age as me... old!!! He's also worked with Roger Daltrey and The Pretenders among others.

Yeah, Celtic music is a lot of fun. I played guitar in a traditional acoustic Celtic band in Flagstaff, AZ. We didn't have pipes, but we had a flutist. Most people thought we sounded like acoustic/instrumental Jethro Tull (except most of the music we played were arrangements of of songs written about 500 years ago!).

The Irish band I was in was more 'contemporary' Irish folk (Tommy Makem, the Chieftains, Wolfetones, etc).

I enjoyed playing the Celtic stuff more.

While I haven't played them in a Celtic Rock band, I play bagpipes in a Bagpipe band (NH Pipes and Drums) but it was Celtic bands (Wolfstone, 7Nations, etc) that were a factor in my learning the pipes.

Heh... Thanks Marko. But you're not missing much. Except for the big events (Lowell Folk Festival, Summer Concert Series, etc.), Lowell doesn't have what I would call a vibrant local music scene.

When I was playing in bands there, we mostly had to travel for gigs. Just about all of the live music clubs have died out over the years.
