Thunderbird Club

So I went to my local store today and played a stock tbird. Playing it made me remember the qualities the TB+ pickups have and has got me thinking to take the thunderbuckers out of my bird and use the TB+ again.

There's something in that huge smooth low end and midrange.

Anyone prefer this to the repro's? Or mix n match?

I think the TB+ have a really nice deep, somewhat cleaner sound than most repro pickups. Less clear top end and growly upper mids and more deep, round lows.

Ha, I'm a bit interested in learning about Celtic/Irish folk mixed with Aussie Trad folk/roots. Know next to nothing ATM. :)

I have sat in a group Bodhran lesson though. Now that is something I want to investigate a bit. Not sure I could handle a fiddle, mandolin or bouzouki though lol. May buy a tin whistle :) though I guess there isn't much I can transfer from my (used once) Kazoo. :D

Check out the band Brother, now pretty much dis-banded but they were Aussie ex-pats (with Scottish roots) who moved to LA, 3 brothers (hence the name!) who mixed Celtic/Rock with bagpipes and didge. Two of the brothers ended up moving back to Oz, I think one went into politics leaving only brother Angus with the band, he pulled in other musicians to keep the band alive. A couple years ago, for all intents and purposes, Angus "retired" and now they only get together for special occasions. Try this for starters... home

Why not get another one with TB+'s in it - Then you'll have the best of both worlds? :)

Hahaha with a Dingwall on the way that's not in the cards:p

When my bass is back from the luthier I'll have some fun;

Both thunderbuckers vs TB+
Neck: TB+ bridge: tb 66
Neck: TB66 bridge: TB+

And if I really go nuts I might add another route between the fretboard and neck pickup for some big booty

I think you got it all wrong...

One of the brothers (Malcolm) ended up in a nursery home due to dementia - The remaining brother Angus kept pulling other musicians into the band to keep it alive, although he probably should have left it for dead years ago, when their first singer Bon died...

Oh wait... Maybe that was another Angus..? ;)

Touche Michael! :) I'm wondering now though, is Axl dedicating "Whole Lotta Rosie" to himself each night? ;)

Nice touch! :)

Just saw a couple of live videos from the current AC/DC tour with Axl, and I must admit that he's doing a fair effort with the band, and his vocals actually do fit in quite well like both Bon and Brian did...

As much as I didn't want to accept it, I have to say Axl's range is right in there where he can reasonably cover Brian's songs. I haven't heard him do a Bon song yet though. Still all in all, I'm still reluctant to accept this Axl/DC thing and hope it's temporary as stated to complete the tour. Would love to see Brian get some help, supposedly they are working on new earbuds that have a sort of artificial "eardrum" built in that would absorb the damaging levels of sound before reaching the actual eardrum and causing (further in Brian's case) physical damage.

:D Actually, I live in Des Moines which is just south of Seattle and right on Puget Sound........ People think it rains here all the time and we natives would prefer that most folks continue thinking that way :roflmao: Truth is, when it's nice here this is an incredibly beautiful place to live.
Hey, cut that out! The reason you have a green car is moss. It was a yellow car a week ago. The sunshine is a hologram. It's 100% fake. We are all pale wet creatures out here, and we look and act like Gollum. Except when we get really big, grow hair, and turn into Bigfoot.

Did I miss anything?

I figured out why all my bass guitars seem to have a dead spot at C on the G string. It's only in one location. That should have been a hint, but it wasn't. It turns out that the snare drum in the practice space resonates wildly at that frequency, which is why everything seems dead at that pitch, but only in that space. It's why I can't dial it out by tweaking the neck back and forth on anything. It's been an issue on every 'Bird for the past month or two, and it has been driving me crazy. It's a relief to find out that it's not the necks, since it is ALL of 'em!

And, for what it's worth, Hongkongbuckers sound really good with EB cobalt flats through an Acoustic Control amp. There's an almost chorus effect that the bass gets, and the whole sound is growly and aggressive. It sounded outstanding. Little EQ experiments were a whole lot of fun, too. Radical scooping made for a very modern sound that's completely inappropriate for the music we play, but it sure sounded good. Anybody who thinks a 'Bird is a one trick pony is completely wrong.

Did you see the Weather Report for the weekend? 87 on Sat, 90 on Sun, that's moss killin' weather.

That's it. I'm not moving the family, the in-laws, pets, band and dog-walking enterprise out there in my stinky old truck. Thanks for the heads-up, Gaolee. :sour:

I thought you all were just unemployed extras wandering aimlessly since the cancellation of Northern Exposure! ;)

My wife is very happy about it. She loves the hot, sunny weather. I'm not near as happy when it gets up past about 80 or 85, but a happy wife makes up for a lot of things.

I have been driving a van for years, and this just proves that my attempts at making Seattle into a tropical paradise are finally paying off!
