Thunderbird Club

Got sort of a bummer of an announcement here, I recently broke the index finger on my left hand, and more recently incurred a rotator cuff injury to my right shoulder. The hand is coming along ok, but I'm in physical therapy for the shoulder and it's going to be awhile, especially since I can't get time off work.

I'm going to do a few things to make life a little more friendly to this sticky situation, and I've found a pair of GK 210 MBE-II cabs. They are super light, and will be much handier to deal with than the mostly cumbersome biamp thing (large-ish subwoofer and blocky 210, heavy Poweramp...) I put together earlier this year. But, in order to do it I'm going to have let go of my T-Bird Pro IV. It's the point axe that'll generate the bread for the purchase, and I need to do this.

Don't really love the idea, but I thought I'd post here first. If I do this it's only because there will be another one. This shoulder thing is a bum deal, and deal I must. Can't take time for it- it's going to heal, but it's going to be awhile and I have to do whatever I have to for it.

Just putting this out there...

Bummer, man... Getting well is a priority - You may always find another bird, when the time comes.... :)

Well, crap. I knew better than to try to get away with adjusting it without easing the tension. Oh well, time to borrow the neighbor's Tite Bond.

Bummer...

Try raising your front stud and lower the two rear studs, so the the bridge has a slight tilt backwards - This usually helps preventing the inserts beeing pulled out, and also gives the strings a slightly better break angle.

Count,
So sorry to hear about the injuries and the sacrificial bass!
I went through the same situation on the right rotator cuff. I opted for physical therapy vs surgery knowing that it will have to go under the knife eventually. It more or less healed over a 9 month timeframe but during that time I found the wonderful world of short scale basses (Gibson SG, Fender Mustang Squier Bronco and Jaguar) compact 2x10 combo amps (GK MB210) and even a Kala Uke bass along with seated playing.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and GLWTS.

Interesting idea, the short thing. I've owned a couple, once a Gibson that I really liked a lot. Thanks for the words, yeah it's a slow process. Biggest challenge may be keeping my job, AND healing up...

Toothpaste works OK to bring back the shine to nickel silver ThunderBuckers. I use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound to do the same.

I put a brass nut on my brand new '77 in '77. Also used a stainless steel pick. It made a difference...especially through three Coliseum heads and 3 SVT cabs

Also put a brass nut on a recent Cataldo for a customer but didn't keep it around long enough to see how much difference it made compared to bone. EQ plus brand and age of strings have more effect on tone IMO.
It's more of a microphnic issue actually. The wax inside the pickups isn't evenly distributed cussing noise.

Speaking of....has anyone mixed pickups? I'm tossing up the idea of having a tb+ in the bridge and Tbucker in the neck or the ther way around. Have that new age thickness with vintage growl?
EDIT: now throwing around the idea of havin the tb+ in the bridge and putting the spare thunderbucker between the neck pup and fretboard like the tom Peterson bird. Wire the two necks together.

You better! (Hang around that is). We all wait with baited breath to see what you buy next, but in the mean time, once a Tbird brother, always a Tbird brother!

*Bows and removes hat*

I'll surely be brandishing something soon enough! Thanks for the good buzz. I dig this group, got no actual reason to quit hanging around... cool.

You have to sell 'Lenore'?? Bad deal man... Your well being is more important, though. Heal well my friend.
