That’s the thing I prefer the modern Thunderbird tone over the vintage tone in general, I loved the classic pro but had to sell it as I was moving abroad, its next to impossible trying to source down another Classic Pro now that they’re discontinued so I figured the bolt on is cheap enough that it would satisfy the thunderbird craving until I can grab a used CP or even a used Gibson sometime down the line in the future. The bolt on model I played in the store was a Chinese model made in the Epiphone Qingdao factory and as I said earlier it had a 1.5” nut width as opposed to the usual 1.73” nut width. I think they may have switched to 1.5” a few years ago (or maybe it depends what factory it comes from) as most videos online I’ve seen from about 2016 onwards seem to look like they have thinner necks.
I don't know if you've played a VP or a vintage Thunderbird, but they do more than the clanky angry piano tone--which I don't like. I'm in for the big, thick and punchy tone. If I were to make a decision on Thunderbirds based on demos on Youtube, I would likely not get a Thunderbird. Most seem to get a tone I've never had or wanted. Too often it's raspy, thin or distorted, or all the above, which is just not me. The vintage tone can do that, but it can just as easily lay down some seriously thick beefy bass! Thunderbird secret: They sound great with flats as well!

I’d be shocked if it’s that low.
When I got my '06 some months ago from Phoenix to Lou it was $197. I've shipped a bass to CA, TX and WA none over $69 for some of the more distant locations not that long ago. If prices kept going up, it cols well be over $200 now. Might be where the increase in bass prices partly originates from. I'm sure they and the sellers get way better prices, but I suspect even their prices have gone up a fair amount.

funny, when I think "angry piano" I think twang not clank....when I think clank I think flats with a rubber mute played with a pick and obnoxiously EQ'd mids...

I’m not sure where Rexx is. If he is in the States, then yeah, it would be less than that. Not sure where Hellnezuela is, but sounds pretty far away to me. Of course he could bu in L.A...or anywhere for that matter. Hope he finds a new Tbird; I like his vids!

I have a 2X10 Goliath....hefty tone and not as cumbersome as the 4X10..

Yes, the Goliath 4X10 doesn't get used for gigs these days. I either use my 2X10 Eden or the 1X15 Ampeg (B-15) cab. Plenty present for the gigs we do. (did :sorry:)

You're right, twang is a much better term than clank. I think of clank more of bright strings with a pick or strings hitting the frets. Even then clank may not be the best term. With flats, muted or not, I tend to hear more of a chunky click-type sound. Boy, it's really difficult to describe the nuances of the simple but mighty bass.
