At some point in this post we began receiving just a little more information than necessary.Just another manifestation of the "me first" mentality pervading society. Like all the people who post[in whatever format]their daily activities: "I'm going to _____ to buy _______". Who really GaS? (Unless it's a THUNDERBIRD)
BTW, I'm going to the smallest room in the house to 'do some reading'.

I saw your earlier pic, but are there any fires in close proximity to you in SF?Apparently it was videotaped and anyone can watch criminal stupidity, er.., states evidence in action on line.
...
The RFS have started hazard reduction burns around here. The theory is to burn safely now and reduce the fuel in bush fire season.
speaking of dumba.....people not too bright playing with fire...
On the way back from Merced this morning, the cops blocked off one lane of the freeway, in a construction zone, due to debris in the lane. To do this, they used flares! Dozens of them, as if half the state on fire wasn't enough
Didn't improve my opinion on their choice when I had to drive by in a gas truck, wedged between their flares and a jersey wall...![]()
I'm always looking for a trashed VP or Embassy. With the Embassy, you get a $200 or more set of PUs and less than $200 in a bass body and parts. Not that the bass is bad by any means.I'm surfing the net looking for pickup options (before the Ahem - its for my Thunderbird, not for me).
Initial findings: dang, I forgot how expensive a set of pups can be. A pair of Lollars with tax and shipping at nearly $500. At that price I could practically buy a used VP with equally good pups and the rest of the freakin bass to boot.
Hey guys, I’ve ordered an Epiphone Thunderbird IV (bolt on) as I played one in a store last week and quite liked it, it had a 1.5” nut and just felt higher quality than the older models I’ve played, it was a 2020 model.
Anyway it hasn’t shipped yet so I can still change my order and I’m wondering now if I should go for the Vintage Pro instead, my only issue with the Vintage Pro really is the huge headstock and the neck dive that I’d imagine comes with it also the unwieldy-ness of it as it’s even longer than an already long instrument. In my country the Vintage Pro is just about double the price of the standard model. Does anybody here like the standard model better or is it just unanimous that the Vintage Pro is the better buy? Thanks
OK, this confirms it. Way back in NC somewhere somehow we are definitely related. I could have written this with no variation whatsoever. It is the mistaken idea that anybody cares about your personal details except you. I do not care what you had for lunch, what your vacation looked like or whether you did an extended exercise routine yesterday. Your dog is not important. And fer chrissakes, I have never participated in a selfie and neither should anyone else. Nope, I am not a crank or opinionated. This is all just factual reporting. And nobody wants to look at your fetus' junk, either.
The BO is a good deal and a good bass. The VP is an excellent bass and an excellent deal. Not really much head dive.

I have a '64 and the VP is crazy close to sounding that amazing--at a fraction of the cost. It's fantastic bass. I have two and both are under priced in terms of value. If you want a Thunderbird that sounds like the gold standard and is very well made, the VP is for you. If I had to get rid of all my basses and couldn't keep my '64 Thunderbird, it would be one of the VPs I keep. I also have a modern Thunderbird as well. Save your money and buy the nest best thing to the gold standard! No one here who has bought one has been disappointed. And just get a good non plastic backed strap and you'll be fine.
The two on the left are VPs.

I have three bolt-ons, two are older Limited Editions and the other is a Goth. They have the wider nuts. I love them. I also have a VP which is amazing. You get used to the headstock. No dive with a good strap. So the obvious answer? Get both.Hey guys, I’ve ordered an Epiphone Thunderbird IV (bolt on) as I played one in a store last week and quite liked it, it had a 1.5” nut and just felt higher quality than the older models I’ve played, it was a 2020 model.

Does anyone around here in the USA have a Gibby for trade by any chance?
As many here know, I bought an Embassy with the intent of using the PUPs in my Thunderjazz project. It turned out to be a VERY nice bass, and I just couldn't do it, so I went with Chinabuckers instead. I love the Chinabuckers in that bass, it has become my favorite 4 string of all time (keep in mind I have a '66J, a CS NOS '59P, and had a '76 Tbird). I like it so much, I'm doing a ThunderP (Thunderbird style PUPs in a mahogany P body) in hope of catching lighting in a bottle a second time. My problem is I bought 3 Embassy's, and don't use any of them since I built the Thunderjazz. My gu***tar player wants one for jams. My second I will leave in my 2nd home (along with the Steinberger Spirit currently residing there). I'm thinking of using the Probuckers in the 3rd Embassy in the ThunderP, but might just get another pair of Chinabuckers, they are criminally good for $87.I'm always looking for a trashed VP or Embassy. With the Embassy, you get a $200 or more set of PUs and less than $200 in a bass body and parts. Not that the bass is bad by any means.
I’ve had the Classic Pro in the past and didn’t mind the slight dive on that but I’m imagining the Vintage Pro neck dive is a lot worse due to bigger headstock and heavier tuners or am I wrong?
Oh that’s interesting I wasn’t aware of that, can anybody that has or had both the Classic Pro and Vintage Pro confirm if the balance is roughly the same or worse on the VP? Hopefully I’ll get to try one out this weekend in the store and see for myself, I probably shouldn’t have rushed myself and placed the order for the standard IV while I’m still trying to decide...a couple of answers above but I will add that the body of the VP is bigger than the 60s T’birds.
Perhaps to balance the large head.
