Post thunderbird Thursday and new bass day.
Here's the Goth accidental purchase with surprisingly few warts.

Plays great, some grounding hum but not bad, much much better sounding than the new Goth I purchased three years ago (that has since gone under the knife in every conceivable way and now sounds quite nice).

The pups in this one sound very good, so no need to flip those out. The control harness is a bit of a mess and does have a bit of grounding hum, so that will be replaced. The bridge apparently popped a treble side anchor and was fixed with the wrong type of glue, so I'll have to confirm the bridge ground is still good, if so I'll put a Hipshot supertone bridge on it. Those appear to be the only fixes it needs and neither one is urgent. I'm happy with my $150 purchase.
Expanding Gorilla Glue on inserts? Worse than epoxy IMO. And on the treble side. Not a good idea. The one I had to glue on the Silverburst is holding fine with a bit of Titebond, carefully applied to avoid comprising the ground wire.

I think I posted here that I bought an Epi EB-0 at what I consider a good price ($165). Cosmetically, almost perfect. However, Hipshot on its way. Also, a custom TRC to replace the one that wasn't there. Still gonna be less than a new one which would prolly need a Hipshot too.

Congrats Plaid. Are you liking it better than the Squier?

Rather than my usual smart@$$ comments, I'll say it like it is. My first real bass: Gibby EB-3 on which I almost never used the bridge pup. I had an Epi EB-3L for about 4 years so I knew what I'd get with just the neck pup. The Squier was OK, in fact I liked its sound better than I expected to, but it wasn't what I like and I could never quite get the tone where I wanted to be. Then there's the fact that the neck profile and my aging hands, which prefer Gibson/Epi necks, just didn't get comfortable together. I know the '09 Epi is gonna take some adjustments/tweaks to get the action where I want it and I budgeted for that.
So, after all that [stuff], yes.:)

The aftermath of a dirty deed done dirt cheap...

It's not the end of the world and I'm sure I can correct it but I sure wish the previous owner had thought through the fix a bit first.

They are different. A bolt-on looks the same to an average person, but it is a different beast. I have three Gibson Thunderbirds but still have a bolt on that I really like. It is an older Korean made version with a much bigger neck than the one you ordered. So the answer to your question is that there really is no answer. I have not seen a VP, let alone played one, so keep that in mind. And I kinda want one but keep spending my spare cash on drum stuff. The lobotomy was successful.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me:dead:

There is a variety of tacts to take to achieve a favored tone/sound. Capacitors can also alter the tone. In my Dano basses (with lipstick singles) have 500k pots. Using 250k pots should make it sound softer/soother/less trebly so I guess that could relate to 'darker', but a suitable cap can do similarly w/o reduced output.

Wow. Even I understand that. He’s good.

yeah, same here. Love GKs, my all time favorite ss amps..
I thought you had some serious Ashdown love and that might be your fav SS amp. I like the Ashdown SS because they are among the warmest SS heads I've ever played. Oddly enough, my old Peavey Mk IV was pretty warm as well, but not Ashdown warm.

Looks great! Congratulations on adding another bird to the heard! Don't believe I've ever played one of those.
