The Greco and a '76 are worlds apart, I think the only characteristics they share are same general shape, the necks are very different with the Greco being more like a P bass and shorter 33 1/4" scale vs. 34" for the Gibson. A '76 feels like a big bass, because it is, the Greco is, and feels smaller. I think a '76 needs a big amp and some real volume to sound good, no doubt the odd design of the pickups being the reason. The Greco sounds fantastic at any volume, the pickup is so hot that I usually have to use the -10db pad on my amp as it overloads the front end ( My Lull, Jackson and the Les Paula require this as well) , it's just that ferocious. What surprises me is that Grecos don't really command high dollars, they're very good basses for what they typically go for, by far better than anything in the price range.
