Thunderbird Club

Iconic:
Suzi-Quatro.jpg

Sorry, I'm a stupid German. What does it mean (in this connection)?
It's a Happy Days reference when she played Pinky Tuscadero.

Well, talking 'bout Greco TBs, one comes to mind: Does anyone play a Suzi Quatro Greco SB 850? I wonder what it will play like.

I always loved her looks & style :)

I always though Suzi was pretty damn cool, evry once in a while one of those Greco's comes up on Ebay.... Interesting headstock, look how far toward the neck the P pup is.

Happy Days was a tv show about some small town kids in the early 60s. American pop culture...
I see, she was an actor then.

Yea. There are some on ebey for about 500€, I wonder if it's worth it. Can't even get much info about this bass guitar, whether it's a long scale or something smaller. Suzie is so darn small, bass guitars always look so huge hanging around her neck. :D
Does anyone have some information regarding this?

thanks

As I recall I paid $750.00 or so (maybe less) for mine on ebay, it's a great bass for that kind of money, I*think* the model Suzi is playing is the same scale as the other Birds Greco makes 33 inches and change on the scale length.

I bought them off of Brian Scott owner of the Motley Crue museum. He has a ton of Crue stuff including many of Sixx's basses. He owns the skull bass. He said that they were in one of Nikki's cases. Sixx will frequently swap out pups and other parts for some reason. They are clearly uses. So,he had them for sale on eBay for a ridiculous price. I contacted him, he needed money to buy one Mick Mars guitars. We came to a deal, an excellent price. I've known Brian for awhile, he's told me alot about all things Crue. He's the real deal.

So, my band is headlining Crue fest at the Whisky in Hollywood next month...I'll be using this bass for certain!

Now, wouldn't it be fun if Nikki actually showed up at The Whiskey when you play there..? ;)

Well, I didn't care when "Happy Days" happened. Anything apart from punk was not noticed...:D
So I haven't watched an episode, but would be fun nowadays, dunno...
But I still remember when a neighbors son had the "Suzie Quatro" LP, I was pretty young and was almost shocked by her leather outfit and the rock sound. One of my very first R'n'R impression. Never noticed SQ with a bird, but as to be seen she played one.

I don't think I've posted in this club yet. Here's my Epi-bird (namesake bass :p) upgraded w/Lollar pups and Hipshot Supertone bridge. Currently strung up with DR Hi Beams. Great midrange clean tone from this axe and does fuzz/OD well.

Holy crap... that's gotta be a banned weapon somewhere on the planet !
Whotta combo :-)

$200 is reasonable in my opinion. I have bought two bolt-on Thunderbirds for $200 so far, including cases. If I'm not mistaken, an Epi Goth is also bolt-on. Of course, I'm thinking US prices, not Oz prices which are utterly insane by comparison.

Aussie prices are insane by most measures. :)

I have made contact. Epi TBird Goth, no case or bag, no strings. He had no intention of restringing it as he doesn't want to spend anything.

I did a little look around and a Sydney store has one listed as new for about $560. I can get that or the standard Bolt on or the TV Silver & Silverburst for $499-$600.

I dont know if the neck has the 1.73" or 1.5" nut width. Not very concerned.

My nephew has 'encouraged me' lol to grab it; to tell the truth I'm a little keen on the Goth version myself.

I'll offer $200 cash, as is (it will cost me a bit to clean, string, setup); and see what he says. It is a gamble so I won't go higher on this one. I guess I then have to work out how to pick it up!

String suggestions?
I have a couple of sets of (lightly used) DR Hi Beams off a MM Stingray, so the G may be a little short. However, I put a set on my Challenge (33.25" scale) and it was plenty long for that.
Or, I have a new set of Sadosky (sp?) Blue.

Edit: offer made.

I have seen the occasional Suzi Quattro Thunderbird for sale and have been pretty tempted by them. The pickup configuration is unique and looks really interesting to me. Aw, shoot. I was GAS free. Now I'm not. Oh, well, the correct number of Thunderbirds is one more.

I had a Ric for a couple years and don't really miss it. I liked it well enough, but it just wasn't a Bird. Thunderbirds chose me, and that's that.
