Thunderbird Club

As did I. Covid canceled his latest gig plans. So who knows. And minds change all the time. I think many who are discouraged now and considering tossing in the towel might realize they miss it once things resume.

Look at Glover. He just did a new DP album that’s pretty good. 75 is the new 55 for some...
So I'm actually 55?

So, can you compare the studio to a regular bird? I’m assuming there is no neck dive and is a lighter weight bass than the standard bird?

I haven't experienced the neck dive thing with my Thunderbirds or any bass for that matter since I use Gibson Slingshots and I can't compare the weight of a Studio IV with a standard TB IV since I haven't owned the Studio IV. I would guess that the Studio IV will be heavier since it's a slab body with no contouring. Comparatively, my 2013 Gibson TB IV is less than 8 lbs.

Both of my Studio V's were/are heavy weights at 10+ lbs.

It's just terrible how the last chapters of his life are being written. He led such an amazing life only to have it become tragic.

Other notables on my day: Mel Gibson, JRR Tolkein, Eli Manning and previously mentioned JPJ.

I’m a Fangio kinda guy.... he racked up 5 championships in the times when each race averaged two casualties...

They don’t come up often and some are in rough shape, they are set neck instead of thru.

A big part of the appeal of the Studio Bird is the set neck, quite a different bass than the standard neck thru. Notes are tighter, more focused and maybe a bit darker, very authoritative overall Neck profile is way different too, notably bigger but not uncomfortably so.

Queens love them!

Same bass, different dress

The Beatles landed in America for their first visit on my Birthday. I turned 6. What a marvelous day!

I share mine with Sir Thomas More, John Deere, Sinclair Lewis, Buster Crabbe, Garth Brooks and Chris Rock.

You all get good shared birthdays. I share my birthday with Saddam Hussein...

Been happily using this setup for years since I quit using an Xwire/rack setup. Receiver can use 9v or adapter, transmitter is 9v only. I use high quality rechargeable 9v batteries and they work great and last. For gigs I use an alkaline 9v, the biggest downside to rechargeable's being a short discharge lead time notice. I got my last one on the classifieds here for a great price with extra transmitters and cords.

Tbird VP string choice?
My ebony VP arrived today, but my favorite strings won’t arrive for a few days (TI jazz flats).
I’m going to run to my local music shop and put some strings on her to play until my flats arrive (the strings the bass came with are unplayable)
Recommendations? I seem to recall Rotosound RS66LD’s getting a lot of love here?
You may have bought strings but my fav is likely GHS Boomers. Massive lows with punch and plenty of upper bite. Not as much as rotos, obviously, but I'm not shooting for the angry piano sound. I love TI's, but not on ideal on a VP for me. I think I tried them once. EB Cobalts sound good....but....they make my delicate fingers sore!

Here too!

Last time I spoke with Johnny at a gig here in his hometown, I told him when he came back, he had to play "Fast Life Rider" for me. He said he would. Our band was doing an intro show for the concert. Oct.19,2013

So sad, he passed in Europe less than a year later in July 2014. Sure will be missed. Guess when we meet again "upstairs" he'll be ready to play it, I'm sure.
