Thunderbird Club

Happy belated Birthdays to you all; George and dagrev!

To all of us in the "ripped off on presents for our birthday club", bah hum bug!

I figured out pretty early that one of my Xmas presents was held back for my birthday and since everyone was "partied out" from the Holidays, my birthday was pretty much just another day... with cake. :roflmao:

Thanks Larry! And hope you had/have a good one!

CORRECTION
I WAS WRONG:
The core of Cobalt flats maybe has rounded corners or something, but it is not round.
Very sorry.
I asked the management to delete my post in the Strings subforum about this.

I think the rest of the quoted post is right. Think I'll go rest my fevered brow for a while.
No worries!

LOL - looks like there's at least five of us club members in the December B'day club. I also remember growing up with the "we didn't know what to get you for your birthday and for Christmas so we got you a combined present" mostly from relatives, mom and dad were pretty good about separating the two events. My wonderful wife always makes a point of celebrating each independently.

As Frank Griswald would say, "Have a hap hap happy" Birthday (I'll leave out the Bing and Danny reference for obvious reasons).

Just my experience, but I've had three D'A/Planet Waves cables die (one was the switch). None were gig abused or even old.
Yikes! I've only used mine on several gigs, but nearly daily at home for the last ten years with zero issues. I must have got a good one. I guess I'd pass on buying another one since you've had a pretty high failure rate. I used to use Monster cables but found them to be fairly expensive (although you used to get a free replacement if they ever failed). However, The jack pin was quite a bit larger than my other cables, which would eventually flex the output jack contact to the point that other cables would be wobbly and not work well in my basses, so I stopped using the Monsters.

I never felt ripped off. My parents were great about birthday being birthday, and so is my wife.

OTOH, one year in my hippie days, everyone (including me) forgot my birthday except one friend, but she was hitchhiking in the middle of nowhere, long before cell phones. I remembered the next morning, laughed, and just waited. My housemates didn’t realize they’d missed it for a couple of weeks!

My Mum's birthday is tomorrow (the day after the darkest day of the year). About 30 years ago she went on a rant about always "getting short-changed when she was a kid because her birthday was so close to Xmas". Since then we have made a point of getting her separate birthday and Xmas presents. And I think as adults, my brother and I have made up for her being short-changed when she was a kid. We have gotten her some excellent gifts - flat screen TV, top end lap top, etc.

The rate time I have gotten combined presents, it was worth it, and my request.

My daughters birthday is Jan 12th so she rarely got the combined gift thing. The only time we have done that to her was at her choice when she wanted something that had a much higher price tag.

I have had several friends over the years who had birthdays right at Christmas and they definitely complained about being shorted gifts.

years ago in the late 80’s I was watching a friends crop of “ medicinal herbs” 16 miles from the nearest house/road up in the hills where we would take 2 week turns and one particular turn landed on my b’day....thought nothing of it until to my enormous surprise she hiked the 16 miles to bring me a bottle of Beck’s beer! will never forget..

Not knowing she was going to visit it's a good thing you didn't mistake her for any number of people other than her!

Tbird VP string choice?
My ebony VP arrived today, but my favorite strings won’t arrive for a few days (TI jazz flats).
I’m going to run to my local music shop and put some strings on her to play until my flats arrive (the strings the bass came with are unplayable)
Recommendations? I seem to recall Rotosound RS66LD’s getting a lot of love here?

So, how does everyone connect their THUNDERBIRD to whatever is next in the chain (board, amp, DI, whatever)? I've tried a few cables, and so far the only one I really liked was one I made. Unfortunately I'm not sure what specific cable I based it on, as it's a few decades old.
If I get cables, I want some that just lay wherever I haul them and don't fight me, grab, tangle, etc. I'm open to a good wireless, but it would have to be rechargeable and preferably the receiver would run off standard 9V power. I'd as soon avoid USB if possible.
Shure GXD or something like that. Wireless. It is more than 9 volts, so the power supply has to be able to deal with it. The transmitter is USB rechargeable, and it is all bomb proof. The transmitter has holes worn in the paint and the receiver got a big dent in it somehow. It is also an effective tuner/mute. Plus, I don't trip over it or get wound around a tree like a dog on a leash. It was expensive, but after however many year, it comes down to a pretty good annual cost. Six years? Seven? I have completely lost track.
