every once in a great while, something really cool comes outta Manhattan...
this track begs for a Bird imh...

One of the more bizarre music vids I've ever seen... I don't even want to imagine how it was actually done. :cautious:

Apparently, that strain of mahogany was very common in Japan in the '60s as most guitars and basses were made from it - both bodies and necks. The Del Rey is solid but there are lots of laminated examples as well. Mostly this "stripy" version. My '64 T-bird II is not of that "stripy" variety.

was that bass ever refinished?

I got the body stripped (on eBay for cheap) - so most likely no. It was a bit beat-up (DIY project) so I had to use some Bondo and lots of sanding. It's my go-to rehearsal/recording/live bass for The Sean Conneries - that and my Coral Deluxe Bass and Custom Kraft hollow-body.

My '64 II, '68 CK HB and the newest member of the family - a (late '60s) Coral hollow-body "longhorn" short-scale piezo fretless. Japanese Hollowbody Longhorn bass project and Harmony H-19 guitar resurrection

I doubt it - I got it in '78 snd it was 100% original then. It looked very similar to my '63 II but I don't have a pic of it unfortunately. Back then ('74) cameras weren't so common. :)

We used to call that Philippine Mahogany.

I have always called that kind of mahogany pattern bee's wing. Honduras like that can have a stunning iridescent quality that puts maple to shame in the right light. I made some chairs out of it 30 years ago or so.
