Thunderbird Club

Hmm. Not a TBird, but the colo(u)r might appeal to someone.
Ibanez Standard SR300E Bass Guitar - Pink Gold Metallic

Love that color, it'd be awesome if my sr305e had that in place of the silver...

Maybe I could figure out how to work it into a Thunderbird paint job....guess I'll have to buy another :wideyed:
The ones I have (that I want to repaint) already have their colors chosen :speechless:

I was watching this doc on Amazon Prime called Instaband, about the evolving state of the music industry and what artists are doing to get themselves out there. There's this band called Kid Politics who's featured in it and the bass player sometimes plays a Thunderbird. I couldn't get much detail on it besides this. That stark contrast of the burst edge makes me think it's an Epiphone. And the front jack.

I can't zoom in on the pic quite enough, but it looks like an end jack, like the Epi Classic Pro & modern Gibsons have?

On a very loosely related note, I've wondered why Epiphone went to so much trouble to make the VP so close to the original 60s Thunderbirds, but kept the end jack of the newer models, instead of the front jack...o_O

Oh, I think you're right. I thought the angle of the cable was going into the front, but after you mentioned it, it does look like the side.

The color works for me, the bass, not so much. Now a Destroyer painted that color would be something.
Ibanez basses are a dimes a dozen but yeah, let's have them bring out Destroyer basses in those colors.

Paul Gilbert Recently sold a Pink destroyer custom.

Also Mark, thanks, I was putting aside money for something cool but I hadn't made up my mind yet on what, an Ibanez Destroyer might be just the ticket...

You may be right about the Epiphone part though, because of the color...

Don't mind me, I'll move along now....:sorry:

As an artist I find the "pink thing" very interesting. Even in the (road) cycling world, owning/riding/racing a pink bike was making a statement at one time. Having a pink (something/anything) is more common now and hardly anyone batts an eye seeing something pink. It shows you the power of colour. Think Prince and the one colour that is tied to his legacy. French artist Yves Kline was know for his "International Kline Blue" - wouldn't it be great to be remembered with a colour. FTR, "International Colours" denotes an international standard for colour mixed to specific pigmentation and density. So, to have a colour on their list is huge. I helped curate an art show/exhibit by a European artist who specified a wall be painted in a specific International Colour, which luckily here in SF I had a known paint store that could mix that. Standards are very useful when you are talking international.

Standards are indeed great to have. Alas, as you mention cycling, there are an increasing number of "standards" for ... bottom brackets, what a PITFA they've become — used to be you had to choose between Italian-thread and "standard" and maybe a half-dozen widths at most. Headset sizes have not evolved as much as BBs, but still here too, brought about by the advent of MTBs... list goes on.

The inlaws bought me a new phone, I tried to plug in my headphones yesterday... there's no headphone jack. WTFudgsicle?

Imagine if the increasingly "new standards" game applied to our shared field of interest ...

SALESMAN: "So you want that custom bass with Fendur jack size, or Ibinez's?"

CUSTOMER: "Well, I was hoping I could get the Gibsun standard, to go with my Ampug."

SALESMAN: "Y'er outta luck then, Gibsun's legal department went after all the independent builders, only Ibby on Boutiki, dude, and the amp...

CUSTOMER: "I just don't wanna have to play a Mehga Boojie.

SALESMAN: That's all Gibsun's been compatible with ever since 2021, ...

Honestly, I think about (and appreciate) standards at least as much as any expat can. Moving back to the ol' country, almost none of the electrical appliances are coming. Just a few important ones I'll have to get adapters for, such as my solder station etc.

So... If you're going to paint me a Wal, make mine International Orange.

It's "buy me because I'm different/bucking the system and once you are in my camp you can't leave" over, let's all agree on a standard. Most likely the later will never happen.
