Thunderbird Club

I was watching this doc on Amazon Prime called Instaband, about the evolving state of the music industry and what artists are doing to get themselves out there. There's this band called Kid Politics who's featured in it and the bass player sometimes plays a Thunderbird. I couldn't get much detail on it besides this. That stark contrast of the burst edge makes me think it's an Epiphone. And the front jack.

“If George Formby played a Thunderbird”.

That strap height is making me anxious...:bag:

Standards are indeed great to have. Alas, as you mention cycling, there are an increasing number of "standards" for ... bottom brackets, what a PITFA they've become — used to be you had to choose between Italian-thread and "standard" and maybe a half-dozen widths at most. Headset sizes have not evolved as much as BBs, but still here too, brought about by the advent of MTBs... list goes on.

The inlaws bought me a new phone, I tried to plug in my headphones yesterday... there's no headphone jack. WTFudgsicle?

Imagine if the increasingly "new standards" game applied to our shared field of interest ...

SALESMAN: "So you want that custom bass with Fendur jack size, or Ibinez's?"

CUSTOMER: "Well, I was hoping I could get the Gibsun standard, to go with my Ampug."

SALESMAN: "Y'er outta luck then, Gibsun's legal department went after all the independent builders, only Ibby on Boutiki, dude, and the amp...

CUSTOMER: "I just don't wanna have to play a Mehga Boojie.

SALESMAN: That's all Gibsun's been compatible with ever since 2021, ...

Honestly, I think about (and appreciate) standards at least as much as any expat can. Moving back to the ol' country, almost none of the electrical appliances are coming. Just a few important ones I'll have to get adapters for, such as my solder station etc.

So... If you're going to paint me a Wal, make mine International Orange.
:rollno:Kinda like the 9 pin Alembic output jack or the Warrior bass locking output jack.

I thought marmots were rodents.
You're correct, Marmots are rodents, their scat is called marmite. ;)

From the Thunderbird West Coast TRC Screw Strategic Stockpile:
These will work. Just pre-tap the hole a little deeper before installing.

It's an acquired taste. Don't like it? Acquire some taste.

;)

I would try it if offered, keeping a beverage of some kind handy.

The first time I had marmite I nearly gagged on it. Super salty kinda smokey flavor IIRC. I spread several large dollops on toast which was apparently the wrong way to serve it.

Once done right it's not a bad thing, actually kinda good but you have to do it right to even tolerate it. It seems the proper way to eat it is to spread butter on the toast first then swipe an incredibly small amount of marmite (about 1/4 as much marmite as you use to butter your toast, maybe even less). I still prefer jam but marmite will do in a pinch.

Serve with a beaker (mug) of hot Builders Tea with cream and sugar for the win.

Yes, it’s very salty and yeasty and is a by product of the beer making process. It’s made in Burton-upon-Trent here in the UK and if you’ve ever been there the smell of Marmite hangs in the air!

Marmite typically goes on toast, there’s another yeast paste, Bovril, which is (was?) more typically turned into a drink.

I can't zoom in on the pic quite enough, but it looks like an end jack, like the Epi Classic Pro & modern Gibsons have?

On a very loosely related note, I've wondered why Epiphone went to so much trouble to make the VP so close to the original 60s Thunderbirds, but kept the end jack of the newer models, instead of the front jack...o_O

Perhaps to distinguish it from their base IV, or even from the original bird - when people put Gibson TRCs on.

For bicycle/motorcycle, probably any high-end racing - thinking is a detriment. It's what training is for.

To an extent, it’s true for any activity. You learn to ride by instinct. The thinking is for planning ahead, making decisions about routes, choosing solutions, etc.
Same with bass. Practice until the movements are second nature, and you subconsciously translate mood (whatever) to music, and your fingers just do their thing.

Ok question... hi everybody! Question... I've got the sweet-spot p'up from an Epiphone Blackbird. I remember quite liking the sound of it, deep and lowering, and had a nice growl in it.
I've got an Epi Classic Pro, and am thinking to put a different p'up in the sweet spot. I'm a little less than inspired lately from the sound I'm getting from it.
I'd have to rout a tad to get 'er in there. But the bass has a couple issues- that are fixable, and that I'm am ok with- and it's going to be a keeper. If this p'up doesn't work out, a DiMarzio Model One is going there, and that one I have experience with... I had a Schecter Stiletto Elite that I'd put that DiMarzio into, and it went onto a Plan 9 record. I really liked the sound.
Anyway, anyone have a thought on replacing the sweet spot p'up on my Classic with the Deep Sixx (Blackbird) p'up? Is it a horrible idea?
Asking for a friend. :)
