My VP had the same issue with the pickup screws, the only manufacturing issue I've noticed.

I used a nail file to smooth them out

I think the Epi Embassy (China) and VP (Indonesia) are worlds a part from my experience. As I've mentioned before, even my wife could tell the difference. After simply handing me a VP and taking an Embassy in a store she said, "This one (VP) is better." Both of my VPs are fantastic. Can't find a flaw on either one really other than some hardware and PU screws with rough heads on one. I was actually concerned when considering a modern Gibson from some of what I was reading. Once I got it was amazed how wonderful it was. I love it and can't find a thing wrong with it, other than I'm not crazy about the modern Gibson PUs, having owned and hearing a '64 for decades.

EB3 bridge string extender, is this item (or similar) available?
The developer was on here, an Evan Webb, but hasn't been seen since 2014. That Reverb ad says the seller has a thick one and two thin ones.

I would think it should be easy enough to fabricate one with the right tools.

Having replaced a few, yes, but I love them in my Studio Bird, I think the set neck and those pickups works quite well. They're likely better suited to a more contemporary amp as well.

Sure enough. That's something I've considered as well. VP pickups would do the trick as well! If anything happens to my cheap burst VP (headstock coming off, etc.) those PUs will be going in the Gibson for sure.

Having owned a G&L 2500 Tribute in the past and a modern Tbird now, I’d say his clip is pretty accurate. To my ears the bird sat better in the mix and sounded what I expect a bass to sound like (not a baritone guitar). By comparison, I felt the G&L was trying to compete too hard with the guitars for similar sonic space. Likewise, the G&L played by that player had the exact same fault that mine had (when I had mine I thought it was just me or possibly the strings) the darn bass has a split personality. The A and E strings in passive mode sound relatively deep (maybe a bit buzzy) but the G and D strings sound twangy and thin with almost no heft to the note. All my thunderbirds are much better balanced than that from string to string. I’ll keep my birds.

BTW - very nice playing by the YouTube guy whomever he may be. I suppose in a real world situation he’d EQ the basses differently to get the sound he liked best, but doing it this way gives a very good relative comparison.

I didn’t say they don’t sound good! Just said they aren’t for everyone I prefer Lollars and ThunderBuckers for what I want, but I could (and have!) happily gig a stock modern TBird

Thanks for posting this. Very interesting. I'll have to listen with something else later, but just with macbook pro speakers the Thunderbird sounded thicker, but a little one dimensional maybe. The G&L was thin (which neither of mine do),but seemed to have more character or something. Great video!

I was thinking the same in that I’ve heard much better examples of the L2000 tone wise.

He's a really good player.

I really like the tone of the TBird in this. The G&L sounds too much like a J bass. It really is all personal preference.
