They are different. They are brighter and have more aggression. They might be a bit clearer, although that may be a factor of the strings I have on different Thunderbirds at the moment.

No just scuffing it thoroughly. It makes for a whitish quality next to the gloss black poly everywhere else.
Yeah, my TB+ are plenty clear, aggressive, and full-sounding with my Power Steels and GK amp.

They'll fit the pickup routs no problem, they would need dense foam and/or wood underneath them as they're much thinner in cross section.
These are similar, note how thin they are.

I think the amp plays a big part here, TB Plus really do sound good with an SS amp - like GK. I should at some point get another tube amp as I have the feeling the Probuckers would likely sound better through it.
Based on input from this club, I just purchased the "Epiphone Tbird Embassy Probucker 760 Bass Pickups with spacers, surrounds" from Ebay.
You guys are great, I hope the pickups fit the bill! Will report back following installation.

I hope it’s not the tobacco burst type, that could get messy. And who’s been giving the poor chimp tobacco anyway.

I think you’re really gonna like how these sound. A bit more aggressive than the TB+ pups, very full, plenty of low end and a clear but not harsh top end. Easily worth twice what you paid.

Totally agree. Of course I think every bass sounds great through a GK.
Buy this one instead of a 60's model and save a couple grand. Of course you already have the 70's sound covered so you may NEED to add a 60s to the flock.

Ok, the short answer: They kill them. But many like the way the TB+ sound, but they do not sound like a vintage Thunderbird. The Epi ProBuckers do sound really close to the originals. I have had a '64 for decades and now have two VPs that sound fantastic, not even considering they are way less than a Gibson. I also have an'06 Gibson and it sounds least like a traditional Thunderbird of 5 I have. I'm not saying they sound bad, as that all depends on what you are shooting for, they just don't sound like the orginals. My '76 with sidewinders is much closer to the 60s version than the modern TB+. So it depends on what sound you want. Vintage? No question, ProBuckers. A modern take on a Thunderbid sound? TB+.
