Oh man……I’ll miss this guy…
My 'history' w/ ZZTop is kinda weird. I was a member(?) of Columbia record club and ZZTop was one of my choices. The day it came in the mail, I put it on the turntable(remember those?)and played it.Is that not a killer no frills rock album or what? And that song...... Something else.
Coupla days later I thought, "well, I'll give 'em another listen". Blown away. I musta had a shippy(sp?) day the day I received it. Been a fan ever since...Yeah and the “pain management” is what killed him.Hip issue…….wasn’t Tom Petty dealing with a similar ailment?…
Duśy would have been even more Badazz (if that’s possible) playing Gibson Thunderbirds…..100% convinced…….
Was asked to go over this one for tonight’s gig;
with this setup (think I’ll use the reverse)….

Yeah, woulda liked to've seen/heard him on a 'Bird, but -maybe like a lot of us-he'd found "his" bass.Yep. Didn't know what he was missin'!
Yep. A nasty fracture that drove him to take too many pain meds.Hip issue…….wasn’t Tom Petty dealing with a similar ailment?…
Never knew there were other members years ago.(Lifted off Wikipedia)
1st line up change in 50 years. Always a bit of a shock when I see something like this, I had the same reaction when EVH passed.
Further down, they mention a touring bassist in 2021. Didn't know that.

I was vaguely aware they'd had a keyboard. I'd at one time thought I'd be a good addition to them seeing as how I play(ed)keys, bass, and sax. But, responsibilities. I never followed up on the idea. Prolly just as well-my beard ain't long enuff.Never knew there were other members years ago.
Thanks Donny! At some point I’m going to draw a Tbird, but Mikes bass needed that Gibson bird. And it looks great Irv!
Know what you mean. I have to say Billy's playing isn't what it used to be. Seen them several times on TV, etc, of late and he used to be flat out amazing and now can't seem to do what he did. (Me either, but Clapton seems to still have the magic.)Didn't know about a touring bassist.
For me, it is like Queen without Freddy Mercury or Rush without Neil Peart. Just not the same band. Might be really good players, but not the band.
On the other hand, there are some bands that I accept replacement players; I will claim that I saw Deep Purple even though it was 60% of the members of mark II...
There's a good documentary out there. I enjoyed it. It'll be getting a lot of views tonight.Never knew there were other members years ago.
It’s true. I am constantly memorizing music and “training my fingers”. Gotta keep the gears turning! And for brain exercise.
Related...Years ago when I was a kid and worked maintenance for a slum lord (two actually). One summer we had a renter doing this for Grant one of the buildings. He said a few years ago from that time he had been hitchhiking was picked up by some dudes. They were some of the roadies (he called them) for ZZ Top. He said they stopped someplace and they set things up and played. Sounded just like ZZ Top. Said it was crazy seeing other people but hearing ZZ Top.I saw a post the other day that Dusty was taking a few days off tour for some medical treatment back in Texas and was expected to rejoin late this week/early next week I believe. They had their long time guitar/bass tech fill in for him until he returned, though now, obviously he isn't returning. Not sure if they're going to continue with him as the fill in, might just complete the tour if anything, I guess we'll see.
Yes. And Tom was taking several things that you clearly shouldn't take together. When I read what he was taking I wasn't shocked.Hip issue…….wasn’t Tom Petty dealing with a similar ailment?…
Prince also. And Eddie Van Halen.Hip issue…….wasn’t Tom Petty dealing with a similar ailment?…
A couple favs that don't get much attention.
One of the most moving and pretty blues songs around.
Hell, just heard Dusty Hill passed.
Well, that thoroughly sucks.![]()
