And the NR deserves a good, versitle head and cab that will serve you well at home and be perfectly fine for jamming and gigging should the opportunity present itself. Skip the practice amp combo stuff. Might I suggest the Mesa tt800 coupled with the 115 Mesa Subway cab. For starters.

Well, here's the deal. Thanks to you goons I have just ordered a Sparkling Burgundy AND a Pelham Blue through Guitar Center. I figured there was no harm in at least ordering and trying one out. Then, as I stated earlier in the thread, I couldn't really decide on color. I told the guy on the line this and very openly said I was interested in buying both to see which I preferred in person, then returning the other to the local GC if they didn't mind. I also said if they didn't want to do that, I totally understood. I didn't want to do that without being totally up front first. He said no problem at all as he has noticed some color variance from the pics too, so those two will be heading my way next week. Inverness Green was totally sold out, and it appears to be that way across all stores.

For anyone potentially interested in purchasing a NR, they seem to be sold out almost everywhere online. Gibson's direct site seems to have some Sparkling Burgundy in stock. The Guitar Center hotline told me that there are TWO more Sparkling Burgundies available other than the one I got, and that I got THE last Pelham Blue. So whatever I ended up returning, there's only a small handful of burgundy and potentially one blue left, through that outlet. Seems to be almost no stock anywhere else I've seen, though.

I feel you. I definitely appreciate the Markbass advice I was given and will certainly consider it, on one hand I was thinking something along the lines of it or a Traynor SB115.

On the other hand, if I commit to the price of the NR, there is the school of thought that maybe I should commit to going with a nice head and cab. Before I was using two different tube amp setups with my Gibson basses. An Orange AD200 with an Orange OBC115, and this monster which was my most used rig....

Guys, it seems WE REALLY ARE A BUNCH OF ENABLERS,


Having had a couple days with mine new NR I will say it's really a nicely made bass, the fit, finish, especially around the base of neck, fret ends etc are all first rate. Very good QC, Gibson did a great job on the bass and Sweetwater set it up nicely, I'm extremely happy with it.

Congrats on the upcoming New Bass Day! Can’t wait to see them. Neat that Guitar Center would let you do that, I’ve bought more of my gear through Guitar Center than anywhere else, mostly because of their customer service and return policy.

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely let them know I really appreciated it. I can’t blame you one bit for shopping mostly there. The customer service and that return policy, especially for online orders, is huge.

Something else I forgot to mention earlier. Yesterday I called two local GCs to check if there was any crazy chance that they did have one in stock. No luck, of course, but one employee who seemed like probably a manager told me the next shipment of NRs probably wouldn’t be until February for Burgundy, and not until July or so for Green and Blue. I can’t confirm the accuracy of that, but based on how this run was pushed back on its release, it doesn’t seem unlikely. Just some food for thought for anyone on the fence about purchasing now.

Question: My beloved late 70s early 80s MXR Phase 90 has been acting up. The last few Sundays it would make some crazy and loud popping sound after engaged for a few seconds. Makes my 410s really hop. Like shorts or some kind. So I brought it home to see if it did it there, but can't get it to do anything, batter or power supply or both. Anyone ever run into this? It's fantastic sounding and hate to toss it, but everything has an expiration date I suppose.

Any recommendations on Phasers given this is likely done for?
