Thank you Carlos. They can be addictive. I've had the '64 since 1981 or '82. My '06 Gibson is not in the pic. I need to do another family photo, and you need to post a pic of your new Thunderbird as well!
They are out of this world. I lost a long time playing the same basses over and over again, thunderbirds have a unique sound. Still, for a long time I never liked the gibson thunderbird, due to the plastic pickups and small T shaped tuners, in the other hand... this VP line is just like the old stuff. Amasing bass.
Good choice on the VP. It sounds really close the the originals, looks as well. The modern Gibson's with the black plastic sound "Thunderbird-like." I had a terrible time getting used to the sound because I've had an original Thunderbird sound in my head for so long. It just sounded very different. People that have known nothing else likely never gave it a second thought, but when you've had a vintage sound in your head for decades the newer versions sound really different. As I said before, if Gibson were smart they would put VP PUs in the Gibson version and have a perfect Thunderbird. As great as the Epi's are made--Gibson's are even better. As in "perfect" better. Mine may be the best playing bass I own.

Has anyone seen a Gibson Thunderbird with the 3-point bridge mounted significantly off-center, yet the strings are aligned fine going down the neck?
Do you have one to shows us? I hope not.....
Unfortunately yes. It's now making me think I'll keep the hardware black since I couldn't even see it until I had a flashlight on it looking for something. Curious how this went at the factory.

Can you take some perpendicular to the body of the bass and as parallel to the strings as well?
I guess a little bit but if the strings are going down the fretboard right, then maybe it's not that big of a deal.

You don't have enough for a private concert--not to mention you would want your money back and more after you heard me playing! Seriously though, I'm not sure much would be gained or perceived, but an A/B between the '64 and '06 would be interesting. Currently the '06 has GHS Flats and the '64 Enfeld Superalloys, so they would sound really different from the string aspect alone. One day when I have nothing to do and want to get into it I may do something with both having the same strings.
Now I will need to check as well.... No I'm not as I might fixate on it.
Well look at the distance from each bolt to the edge of the center block.
The strings do seem to be properly-aligned down the fretboard. It's really just an OCD thing I think. But to be a fly on the wall in the factory that day.
Relic'ed by time. Interesting reconfiguration on the PG by the upper horn.(They always break around that screw.)'Course if I hadn't been keeping a pick slid under the PG right there...
Yeah, that's bad.
I was hoping to see the bridge at the bottom of the pic and the the 20th fret at the top of it.
