I've always wanted a completely raggy 70s pickup to park close and next to people who take up two parking places--close to a building. I get people are brainless in parking lots and want to protect their cars, but are too lazy to park where there car would be safe.

Too true, although at this point I would just like to know if my stollen '63 is still among the living. Sadly I have no pictures of it (the days before easy pictures) so I'd have no way to know if it were the one I owned if I saw it. I know of one other '63 II owned by someone on the Thunderbird fb page, and I had a back & forth with a seller on eBay who has a brass mute for sale there who sad it was from a '63 II her husband owned. I have my original brass mute from my '63 (and '64) that I removed so that one isn't mine, and the guy who owns the one on the TB fb page said he got it from his brother who bought it new. (or something like that) So if it's to be believed that there were only a few '63 II's made/sold - that leaves mine, which either met a neck-break end and sold for parts... or it's still out there somewhere. At least I got my pg back!

That's one of those stories that makes me sick no matter how often I hear it. I do feel for you, but am glad you got something as close as possible.

My bird brethren, I am on the hunt for a 64-65 Thunderbird II. Original finish preferably unbroken but will consider a headstock repair. I have Reverb and Ebay staked out, if you know of one in the wild for sale I'd appreciate a heads up. Thanks in advance.

If I were looking for one, that price isn't bad at all for one that clean and in tact. I've seen dumber things sell for way more.

that one is actually pretty nice for the price…

I’d find an Epiphone truss rod cover for it.

I won’t be able to put a claw on it right away, so the burgundy is gonna have to be the fretless one.

I’ll just use the stock strings until the claw comes in, then see if the SIT strings from the Greco fit, or just eb extra slinky’s.

may actually do a lined fretless on this one, it’s harder to do than unlined.

The week back to work after the holidays is always rough. Couldn’t wait to log out at 3:30 and get out of Dodge to the place in the mountains. A good book, warm fire and a Jamison cocktail. Doesn’t get much better than this. Except when playing Thunderbirds. Which I’ll be doing a lot of this weekend. Cheers!

My fav is Louis Cennamo on Armageddon's sole album from 1975. He used that techique with Renaissance and Steamhammer too.

Lee Jackson of The Nice bowed quite a lot on their albums. He used the teardrop shaped Vox bass.

Man. If you lived close, we would be best friends, flipping discs all night long.

Thank you Chucky, I had never heard of the Gizmotron. I may make use of a looper to keep tones ringing as needed. At least I will see how it might work. I have no experience using a bow, and admit that I have had little success thus far getting any useable tone with it. I had imagined tweaking the set up to improve access to the various strings, but a short conversation with my favorite tech disabused me of that idea. It would make the bass otherwise almost unplayable, in that the action would be uneven to say the least. The quest continues.
I can say that he lit up with a big smile on seeing the NR Thunderbird. We talked about trying some flats on it at some point in the not too distant future.
