I think the monkey is trying to figure out where the bass is that's supposed to be sporting the pickguard. "Who stole the bass, but left he pickguard?"

Too true, although at this point I would just like to know if my stollen '63 is still among the living. Sadly I have no pictures of it (the days before easy pictures) so I'd have no way to know if it were the one I owned if I saw it. I know of one other '63 II owned by someone on the Thunderbird fb page, and I had a back & forth with a seller on eBay who has a brass mute for sale there who sad it was from a '63 II her husband owned. I have my original brass mute from my '63 (and '64) that I removed so that one isn't mine, and the guy who owns the one on the TB fb page said he got it from his brother who bought it new. (or something like that) So if it's to be believed that there were only a few '63 II's made/sold - that leaves mine, which either met a neck-break end and sold for parts... or it's still out there somewhere. At least I got my pg back!

Thanks much to all who offered their comments on my question about playing with a bow. I am interested to see if I can make this work. I am heading into town to see may favorite tech and get my new NR set up properly. I am going to take my 5 string P as well. It has flats and the widest spacing of any bass I own. I am hoping he might have an idea about tweaking the set up to make it work for this project. I think the flats will be easier on the horse hair.

My daughter got new strings that are better for bowing (for her upright). Played pizzicato they are very dead and thumpy. But they sound great with a bow. She plays classical, so that works for her.

Man that Fender 300 tube amp has a lot of controls to get a handle on! There is a preset for a pretty cool Jack Bruce/Mountain tone though!

That's what Churchill Downs and the surrounding areas look like after the Kentucky Derby, but with a lot more trash. There are even people sitting like that who don't know where they are.
