Thunderbird Club

No it was a 60's Thunderbird II turned into a guitar with a bolt on neck, then smashed in a geetard player hissy fit.

...Which you restored back to be a fixed neck Thunderbird... Remember seeing the pictures of the work in progress, but the guitar part completely skipped my attention.

Beautiful work, Scott! :)

I rebuilt the body and was originally just going to do a bolt on neck. Michael Dolan gave me a quote for a set neck I could not pass up ,in for a penny in for a pound.

I'm sure you could do wonders with that amputated Bicentennial bird if you win the EBay auction... ;)

Was 95% pick player back in the 80's. These days I'm running half and half based on the song, if it requires speed and/or louder hard attack I'll go with a pick but steady and quieter tone, I'll do fingers. Pretty much all fingers while practicing at home because it's a little quieter and keeps my home Queen from calling for my head! ;)
Have any of you ever experimented with these? And no, despite name, they are not the same as giving a "super atomic wedgie" (nor are they sold to practice "safe bass playing"). They are supposed to give a finger playing sound. The company markets them based on argument that they eliminate the sound a traditional guitar pick makes striking string. I tried them but I did not like the sound and the rubber "sheds"

I fooled with one once...badly. separating my inability to use a pick, I didn't like the lack of "attack" they have. To me they just sound sorta..."pluppy".

Do any of you play your Thunderbird with fingers only in a band? I see a lot of pick players but maybe I'm not seeing the finger folk. Just wondering.
I play almost everything with fingers. My right hand has hardened fingertips from playing lots of rockabilly on the upright, so the fact that I play with fingers might not tell you much. I don't slap and pop, but I can get very similar sounds, at least the pop, with fingers because of that, too. I can go warp speed with fingers. Not so much with a pick. Assume I do everything backwards and you would be closer to right than you would expect.

The more I look at it the more promising it seems.
I think if you cut back to the original Vee joint for the wings and replace the lot you'd have a near perfect repair other than the pickups. If it was me I'd rout out the repair on the original holes and re repair them if it was going to be a TB II, make sure the repair was sound. Whatever it's got potential, I wish I could get one like that over here

Hmmm, wasn't aware of them. They "shed"? Akin to playing with pencil erasers? I'll probably just stick with going between picks (celluloid/Dunlops Heavy) and fingers. Thanks for the suggestion/info though.,
sincerely appreciated.
