Correctamundo on vintage sports cars and even to a large degree on todays smaller offerings. My Boxster is large by vintage sports car standards but pretty much in line with what most would consider modern sports car dimensions. With the top down, I don’t have any issues getting in and out or driving a few hundred miles, but with the top up I’m a contorted mess getting in and out.


And this is the solution! GT sized cars like my 911 are easy entry and exit, comfortable to drive long distances and high speeds and just as fast or faster around the track as a sports car.

I sold my 69 Baja a few years ago, and was looking at an 80’s Corvette to replace it.

I decided I wasn't going to be hitting the track, and would like to have comfort and style.

I still blast past the smartphone zombies on the highway, same as I did with the VW

got me a dream car 65 Ford Fairlane 500

I pared my book collection down severely over the last couple of years. I kept my reference/technical books and the fiction that I might actually read again.

E-Books.

They take up no room. I can carry my entire library in a tablet. My reference texts (which can be huge with multiple volumes) are fully searchable.

But because of DRM, novels can't be loaned/passed along to others.

So much to unpack there. To start with, doping didn't start or propagate with pro-cycling, by a long shot. Every big money sport in the world has doped and still dopes. Granted pro cycling has big money behind it, but nowhere near as much as football (or as Americans like to call it - soccer), American football, basketball, baseball etc etc etc. Pro cycling is the poor cousin of these mega sports corporations. Yes - doping of one form or another has been in the sport since the beginning. (TdF since 1903) In 1998, the shït hit the fan with what is referred to as the Festina (team) doping scandal (of 1998). No question it was out of control with the advent of EPO, blood-doping and other modern enhancement pharmaceuticals - all against the rules of that beautiful sport. The governing body (UCI) knew about it and did little because it made the sport more exciting and profitable. Once again - money was, is, and always will be the main motivating factor for cheaters. So the spotlight was on cycling and it became the brunt of jokes etc, all the while the mega-corp sports went about their (drug) business in peace. If a footballer was caught doing drugs - they got a slap on the wrist. If a pro cyclist got caught - their victories were removed from the records and they were suspended. (re: Lance Armstrong - who is in this new... satire ~) Point being - pro cycling started DOING something about it, and they continue to do something about it. Lance (what a surprise - an American from Texas) took doping to a new level and tarnished the sport because of his bullying ego and greed. As a cyclist and American - I was embarrassed.

As a life long cyclist/ex-bike racer - I'll have to think about if I want to laugh at it yet - especially in such a stupid exaggerated version of it. There was a movie from the '80s called American Flyer about a cycling novice who ends up racing in a premier US event that was around then called the Coors Classic. It was made by the director of Breaking Away - still a classic 'boy-to-man' story based around cycling. As good as BA was - American Flyers was stupidly exaggerated - we laughed through most of it. But it was nowhere near as stupid as this looks...

You have taken it far more seriously than I thought. It is a stupid comedy based on exaggeration and hyperbole for comic effect. Much like Blades of Glory or Talladega Nights.

The first Andy Samberg sports mockumentary 7 Days in Hell is, to my mind, a hilarious take on Wimbledon but shouldn't be confused with any sort of serious critique of professional tennis.

I fell behind, got caught up about two weeks ago only to get about fifty pages behind again. Finally made it. We’ll see how long it lasts.

Do yourself a favor and install it on a piece of scrap lumber first to see if the claw will work for your intended strings.

I plan on looking through my old string pile to see if I can find an E and A string similar in size to my optimas to use as a test set. If I can, I’ll try the old Warwick trick of putting the overwrap portion of the string (down at the ball end) in a vice and basically crushing it enough to fit in the claw groove but not so much as to damage the integrity of the string. Failing that, it will be time to decide if I somehow procure a new claw from somewhere else or file this one down and replate it.

An RS66S 105 seems to be narrow enough. But I’m ok with filing the groove and loosing a bit of the chrome if needed.

We use published standards at my work. They reside on a “library” computer that we access with Remote Desktop. We’re not allowed to copy the PDF.

So anyway, here is how I saved $400 off my burgundy NR.

the sewing machine missed the top part of the “v” shaped pleather piece on the case handle.

I had some old stain and it didn’t take evenly.

I need to buy some new shellac and tint the butchers twine to even the colour out.

I told this story before.
But it needs repeating
Way back not long after I joined up over here.
When I was living in PDX.
Portland Music Company on MLK Blvd.
Had an all original, no breaks.
‘64 II.
And Chucks description matches it to the tee.
Extremely light weight and had a tone like no other bass.

Not a T-bird but I assembled my home built five string today.

I'll be the first to admit that the sonic blue finish wasn't the neatest job, I just worked with what I had and one thing I do not have at home is a fully kitted out workshop.

So how does the "Catface" (Named after both the sticker above the B-sting and a song from my band's) sound?
Much better than I thought it would actually. The B is nice and Punchy and it has a lot more clarity than I thought it would have. I'll take it along to band rehearsal upcoming Thursday to see how it handles itself in a band set up.

But overall, this has been a lot of fun.

That’s the thing. It’s like playing Russian roulette. It effects everyone differently. The hospital near us is full and we are hearing ambulance sirens more frequently again.
