Group was guitar(doubled keys), trumpet(also doubled keys-string synth), drummer, and me on sax, flute, and 67 THUNDERBIRD NR>Blue Line SVT/810 rig. Recorded live @ The Marco Polo Hotel, Miami Beach. All 4 of us sang.

Speaking of The Wiggles, they scored no 1 on the annual Triple J Hot 100 with a Tame Impala cover, Elephant.
Triple J also have a covers thing called Like a Version, and the cover was made for that show. I believe this is the first time that a “Like a Version” song has been voted no 1.

Have you seen the Andy Samberg movie Tour De Pharmacy? His second sports mockumentary. Hilarious (perhaps moreso or not at all to one serious about cycling).


His first sports mockumentary, 7 Days in Hell, was also hilarious.

Most sports cars aren't designed for people large in any of our most commonly perceived four dimensions.

My experience with sports cars is that they are designed to be fun for someone in their 20s or maybe early 30s. But they are priced to be affordable to those in their late 40s or 50s. The physiological changes (early arthritis, chronic sports injuries etc.) in those to whom the cars would appeal makes them uncomfortable to the implied target market. Specifically, hard to get in and out of (to the point that exit can't be done gracefully let alone looking cool), sitting for any long drive will necessitate many breaks to be able to unfold one's self periodically

I suspect we’ll never hear from him again. He really had no clue. And didn’t have any pics to support his claim. He said in the beginning he hadn’t posted in awhile. There are differences that make CPs easy to identify. 7 vs 9 ply’s in the neck, the shape of the bout, poly vs. nitro to name a few. Anyone who knows Thunderbirds would not mistake one for a Gibson. They’re great Tbirds, but they’re not Gibsons.

I think that’s where the Grand Turismo comes in. Style and power but designed for sore backs and bad knees.

So back to thunderbirds…

I’m kinda underwhelmed with the bridge I purchased for the BlingBird…

It’s a two piece design and intonates ok (on taper wound strings, haven’t tried regular bass strings yet because they don’t fit). The claw works fine with taper wound or exposed core bass strings but not regular bass strings. The grooves are cut way too thin on the E and A slots. In addition the ball ends can’t be loaded into the slot from the rear of the claw, they must be slid in from the side, an odd feature that makes replacing an A or D string a real PITA. It’s almost like this was designed for a four string guitar not bass.

Yeah, I can file the claw grooves wider and file some if the rear overhang off to open up the back a bit for rear loading, but that’ll muck up the gold plating. And if a non taper wound string requires the E saddle to go back further I’ll need to disassemble the bridge and flip the intonation screw and spring to the other side of the saddle. Its currently maxed out on rear E string saddle travel (due to spring compression) even though it’s only half way back.

My advice to potential buyers of this bridge (sold directly by Philadelphia Luthiers and also on eBay), Think Twice. It’s not cheap and does have some design short comings in spite of it being an otherwise very high quality build.

If anyone is aware of any Gold color four string bass claws I might be in the market for a replacement, otherwise it’s some bench time with a file and then another $100 to have it replated.

I recently bought the same one in chrome for my blonde bird. I need to get some other stuff off my bench before I install it though.

So much to unpack there. To start with, doping didn't start or propagate with pro-cycling, by a long shot. Every big money sport in the world has doped and still dopes. Granted pro cycling has big money behind it, but nowhere near as much as football (or as Americans like to call it - soccer), American football, basketball, baseball etc etc etc. Pro cycling is the poor cousin of these mega sports corporations. Yes - doping of one form or another has been in the sport since the beginning. (TdF since 1903) In 1998, the shït hit the fan with what is referred to as the Festina (team) doping scandal (of 1998). No question it was out of control with the advent of EPO, blood-doping and other modern enhancement pharmaceuticals - all against the rules of that beautiful sport. The governing body (UCI) knew about it and did little because it made the sport more exciting and profitable. Once again - money was, is, and always will be the main motivating factor for cheaters. So the spotlight was on cycling and it became the brunt of jokes etc, all the while the mega-corp sports went about their (drug) business in peace. If a footballer was caught doing drugs - they got a slap on the wrist. If a pro cyclist got caught - their victories were removed from the records and they were suspended. (re: Lance Armstrong - who is in this new... satire ~) Point being - pro cycling started DOING something about it, and they continue to do something about it. Lance (what a surprise - an American from Texas) took doping to a new level and tarnished the sport because of his bullying ego and greed. As a cyclist and American - I was embarrassed.

As a life long cyclist/ex-bike racer - I'll have to think about if I want to laugh at it yet - especially in such a stupid exaggerated version of it. There was a movie from the '80s called American Flyer about a cycling novice who ends up racing in a premier US event that was around then called the Coors Classic. It was made by the director of Breaking Away - still a classic 'boy-to-man' story based around cycling. As good as BA was - American Flyers was stupidly exaggerated - we laughed through most of it. But it was nowhere near as stupid as this looks...
