Thunderbird Club

pretty not-Thunderbird related, but I would love to be able to do this sort of thing:

Great stuff, I think having an audience through YouTube motivates a lot of people to learn stuff like this now. When I was a kid I sat down and learned the bass solo to Bouree, Jethro Tull, not really in the same difficulty level but for those days it was a very good solo and I must have lifted the turn table arm up and down 100 times. I still remember it and play it by myself once in a great while but in fifty years I have never played it for another person.
Being a bass virtuoso was pretty much unheard of back then unless you were an upright jazz bassist. Jaco motivated a lot of electric bassists to become soloists in a hurry and YouTube and computers in general greatly accelerated the pace even more.

If there’s any chance for a meetup, I’m in. It would have to be a Saturday or Sunday though. @GBassNorth, @D.M.N., maybe @Nocturnal could make the drive over from Chandler, @Chucky Stiletti, @JIO, @Stealth57 could come down in the AMX… I can volunteer my place in Pine Mountain Club, 13 miles west off the 5, Frazier Park exit at the top on the Grapevine. BYOT and BYOB. I can bring the Mesa rig up.

Well, the thought was to visit with @Chucky Stiletti while he hosts Jeff in Santa Cruz somewhere between 7/2-7/6, I was considering hoping a plane to SFO because it's a short flight. The downside to this plan is that I'd have to travel pretty light, no basses, no Queenie stuff and would have to rent a car etc. So Frank and I are pretty seriously talking about making the drive, it'll take about 14 hours which is doable, plus I could bring a bass or two and the necessary clothes makeup etc. to do some Queenie stuff, we'd get a room at a nearby house of ill repute.

I know it’s a haul. And a house of I’ll repute, ha!! This is sounding better all the time!

I’d be up for that! If we get serious about a SoCal GTG keep me in the loop, I can bring a boat load of different basses for folks to noodle on.

Couple of recent purchases - slowly building my Thunderbird collection.

So, do you have a favorite player yet?

Beautiful! I collect antique radios, both receivers and consoles but love all antique electronics, nice!
Was cleaning out the garage yesterday and ran across an old WWII era Minerva tube AM radio that belonged to my Grandparents. All original and still works just fine.

Sorry for the tome that follows :
I've had the NR Thunderbird in my possession now for at least two or three months straight, and this thing has become my first choice among the six I have...
No need to be Sorry! My new NR is incredible too. Not a single flaw. And I love the way the Alnico pickups sound. Gibson makes nice basses.
Ok guys, stop it with the 2021 NR talk already! You’re killin my wallet!

like it! could be this we drive down in…...

A classic! Oil changes are fun on the V12, about 10 quarts required IIRC. I had a 1973 XKE V12 convertible for a short while back in the late 1980’s. Sold it for a more predictable 1988 Mercedes 560 SEC, an autobahn monster in its day.

now you tell me?! lol

Oh lord, can you imagine what Chucks family would think?!
Bad enough I’ll be there

I think two days of me in a nearby motel is about as much as anyone could take......... But we can find some nice places to drink and eat, yes?

I set the bridge pickup lower than the neck and not only for that reason, I like the sound better, less mids out of that pickup, except for my 4001, the cap's still in it, sounds really good as is.
My problem is actually the E string hitting the pole piece of the neck picup. The bridge pup is not a problem. I play fingerstyle, resting my thumb on or close to the neck pickup. And I only have this problem with the Rick, maybe because the strings have a slightly lower tension? I could lower the pickup a little, but that would affect the sound. So I just have to continue working on my technique…
