Thunderbird Club

I saw her a few years ago with her own band. The show was at one of my favorite SF venues "The Great American Music Hall" and it wasn't crowded at all. We were right up front. She's very big within certain circles but as a band-leader you'd have to know about her through Jeff Beck and a number of others she's played with. It was a vey cool show, not so much jazz but interesting original material and she sang also.

She played this bass - a vintage Harmony hollow-body. She also played a Fender bass.

Anybody that uses an SVT is Ok in my book.

Hands down she's a total bass player. She makes the "bass face" often. She just does the more subtile female version...

I've seen a couple of her solo band videos and she's the real deal, great sound besides being a very accomplished player. To me your sound and how tasteful you play is more important than how fast you are or how acrobatic you can play.

So true. In such a dry climate can you have a humidification system for the house? We need them in the winter here. Like with many things, there are downsides with them so it's a matter of weighing what's a cost and what's a benefit. We had one at the other house and had no issues. I also had a climate control system put on our piano and it very noticeably stays in tune much better between turnings and just keeps the thing more happy all around.
Yes. Every time I turn my piano, it need retuning;).

I have a fun experiment coming up. A super fan had this bass made for me by Robin.

I like the looks, the feel, the balance…everything. I just don’t love those Rio Grande pickups. Aside from being kinda ugly, they’re crazy hot and just turn to mush when I lean into it. They gotta go. I very nearly put a set of Lollar Tbird pickups in it, but I have 5 basses with ‘Bird pickups already. I’ve been really missing having a Gibson Ripper lately and from what I understand, the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Ripper pickups are spot on, so I got a set to see how they’ll sound in this bass. Fingers crossed

Wonder if it has anything to do with the area you live in. Brooklyn, NY gets bloody hot and humid in the summer and bitter cold and dry in the winter with a whole bunch of humidity and temperature swings in between. If you transport your bass out of the house to play out a lot, that’s a whole bunch of environmental swings all year long. I gotta admit, since I moved to SoCal from the Midwest I’ve hardly adjusted a truss rod for seasonal changes. My problem here is fret sprout with all the super dry hot air.

I grew up in Mass and am fussy about set up, action changes etc. so am real accustomed to seasonal adjustments. It's even worse here, the temp doesn't change all that much year round but the winters here are very humid, we're only about two miles, if that, from the ocean too which I don't think helps.

No matter how cool it looks - it's gotta sound the way you want. Hope the Duncans bring it home for you. :bassist:

I just bought this one - a Japanese market only (from Japan) 3-pu bass from (year?) that originated in the '90s - made by ESP - the Bass IV (riffing visually and in that tricky numerical turnaround... from the early '60s Fender VI)

'64 Fender VI - the oddball guitar/bass that a few players made good use of, including Jack Bruce before settling in on his Gibson EB.

Painted by the Fool - currently in the Museum of Modern Art. Looks like a bit of modification w/the bridge pu.
