I got an Epiphone Thunderbird and the headstock is so heavy whenever I let go of it, the neck takes a divebomb for the floor. I heard that Entwistle had replaced the neck w/ some sort of Fender. Does that require just bolting a new one on or are the dimensions different and if so, what would be a lightweight neck I could swap out without having to do any bodywork?

You have to widen the neck pocket to fit a fender neck. Try moving the strap button to the back of the body like a gibson http://johnkvintageguitars.homestead.com/BachBass/Bach-cut-7.jpg

Nope. Well they aren't perfect,but they are no where near what the epiphones do. A nice wide strap will also help.

Strap pin on an Epi goes here......... Helps the bass balance quite a bit.

Stock Gibson birds with the button at the neck heel balance well for me - but I make it even better. I go with an "off center" approach and the bass naturally rests in a more upright position for me. I also have an Epi bird which does have a heavier neck then the Gibson, and this cured it also.
