Thunderfunk head with ??? cab

Looking to change my rig around right now. I currently have a 4x10 Ampeg cab(600w@ 4ohms) with my TF 750A(630w@ 4ohms or 305w @8ohms) Head. i would really like to use 2 4ohm cabs(prob a 1x12 and 2x10 set up) can i do that? I've never used 2 cabs before. can both those cabs be around 500w each? or does total wattage need to be less then what the amp puts out? thanks

With a Thunderfunk, you should not go less than 4 ohms total, so get two 8 ohm cabs, or one 4 ohm, if you need to be that loud. Total wattage should be equal to or greater than the amps output. Thunderfunk is very nice stuff; I also have one, although an older one. Tone for days....

I've used a 750A w/ a pair of 4 ohm Bergantino AE 212s many times and never had heat issues. I have a TFB 800-B2 now -- fabulous amp!

True for the older heads (420, 550), not true for the newer heads (600, 750, 800). The newer heads (like the OPs 750) can run safely at 2ohms all day long. Dave doesn't publish 2ohm ratings unless the head can be solidily run at that load.

Tried about 50 cabs with my TF and about 4 basses. Faves?
- a Berg CN212 cab. It's 4 ohm and goes LOUD.
- Also REALLY like my TF thru a Baer ML112 (6" & 12" speakers).

I currently use a TC Elec RS212 and RS210 stack. Great P bass thump but not the clarity of the other two cabs.

I have used my Thunderfunk TFB750 with 1, 2 or 3 AE112 cabs and now a CN212 and it sounds huge, in a very, very good way.

sorry im a little slow at times. i do play some bigger clubs so can i use 2 4ohms cabs at 300 each?

I also have a 750A. I have run it through a two ohm load before. But I mostly gig with 2x112 (8 ohms each for a total 4 ohm load).

The Thunderfunk is a very versatile head and I've used it with several cabs and it always sound good and solid.

If I were going to run my 750 at a two ohm load all the time, I believe I would send it to Dave for the 800 upgrade. Just a little beefier and better heat dissipation.

AH i didnt understand the math. i need to divide the total number of cabs by the impedance use and i will have total impedance? example 2 8ohm cabs would = 4ohms total or 2 4ohm cabs would = 2ohms total? correct?

then my total wattage between the cabs can not be greater then the total wattage from my head at that ohm rating. correct?

Right on impedance, wrong on watts.

The Thunderfunk is a very versatile head and I've used it with several cabs and it always sound good and solid.

+1 to that. I used my TFBs with a dizzying array of different cabs, old and new, and many not-TB-approved configurations. It *always* sounded exceptional.

My favorite might have been a UL2-112 on top of an EVM loaded 1x15" Thiele box (EAW). There was an amazing kick to that rig.

I use my 800b2 with either a berg hs210 or hs410 or both at 2.7 ohms. I'm surprised this head doesn't get more love on tb. I get don't have gas for bass rigs over last two years I've had this rig. I got a rim basswitch to go with it and now can't imagine a better rig.

How come thunderfunk seems to have lost some tb love? The 800b2 and the v1 im most referring to. I haven't heard anyone try the new 800v1.

I think the flood of super light, cheap and powerful heads in the last few years has really had an impact.

The TF isn't heavy at all, but by modern standards it is. Its also not expensive for the level of quality (and being handmade in the US) but with a lot of the newer offerings being smaller, lighter and cheaper (though that doesn't mean better, or even as good) you end up where we are.

I know this post is a little old. But I thought I would add:
I just purchased a couple of Audio Kinesis H1203 cabs. I've been trying them out with my different heads. This evening, I tried my 550B with them. Great match. I haven't played either TF head in a while, but with these cabs, I'm gonna dust them off and use them a little more.
