I usually take my 550B out with a UL410 S1 when a modern bass tone is called for. Sometimes I'll take it out with a NV215 for rock gigs, but I still prefer the Carvin B1500 when an old-school tone is what's needed.

thunderfunk - what cabs do you use?

I also went the 112/210 route with my thunderfunk (tfb 550A). I use an EA nl210 for about 3/4's of my gigs as a standalone cab. For loud volume I'll add an EA cxl-112. For occasional lower volume work (especially fretless), I just use the 112 alone. That particular setup works wonderfully for me.
I've used my TFB420 with over a dozen different cabs and haven't had any results I wasn't happy with. OTOH I've been using the flavor of the month for going on a couple of years now... guess that's either a lot of flavor or just a lot of months

But you make it like its a fender with old flatwounds on it. I think it take eq very well. I believe other whappo Jr users may agree. But again Bob Babbit is one of the greats.
I use an Avatar Neo 410 with my 550. My drummer made the comment,"that bass rig really sound great. I can actually hear every note!". When you can impress a drummer,you've accomplished something. I used some of the boutique cabs in the past,but the Avatar just kills them all. I have used the TF with the 410 and 212 for the cleanest full stack you've ever heard.

Never did get this comment of Accugroove cabs 'taking EQ well' versus most other cabs. I never heard that at all. These cabs are in no way 'flat' to me, and the three way design with those small soft dome tweeters gives the top end a very polite and almost paper cone response (nothing wrong with that if that's what you are looking for). They even took the attenuators out of the design, since most felt the need to turn the mid driver and tweeter all the way up on these cabs.
However, my Bob Babbitt example was probably overstated. My point was, the Whappo Jr. is darker and more organic than the other cabs he is considering, ESPECIALLY with a rather warm, mid oriented head like the TF that has a more 'bright than sizzly' top end voicing itself.
At home I use my 420 with an Accugroove Tri-112L. In the sanctuary I use my 550 with a Tri-115.

I use mine with either my Avatar B410 Neo, B212 Neo or in the combination with my SB112 Neo. All Avatars all the time...

Very much so... just heavy as heck. I've used my TFB420 with that cab, a deep coax 210, coax and full range 15's and a coax 1-10, all with very good results. It's a great amp.
don't know if this has been stated elsewhere in the thread, but there is a Bowlus GTG vid on youtube that shows off the tfunk - don't remember which model, but I think it's a 550 - with the epi UL310. That tone just blows my socks off!
I use my 550A w/switch as a go to head, for worship an Aggie gs112, smaller shows Acme Low B2 and then depending on my mood either a Berg Ht322 or a Dr Bass 2460 w/neos.

If you want to go Bag End, I'll tell you that's the combination I use, and I love it. I put an S-15XD with an S-15LD (for low end) with the T-Funk.
Now all I want is the new TF750.
Im not versing Jr's with any other cabinets. I use the choice of words" taking eq well" the same way as others discribe a cabinet tone as "Polite" and "Organic". To me taking eq well means its more versatile than people think.,Although my choice of words could had been better. I was not trying to compare it with other cabinets but I wanted to convey it is more versatile than people may think. I think its alot more than what BassPlayer Magazine stated that its got "Polite Highs". You can get great highs if you want that.
I also don't think to my ears as a clone to a 2 15 sound.
Im not downing your opinion. Just disagreeing. I mean i like alot of different cabinets. Epi's, Demeter, EA's, Berg's. Played many and owned many, but I feel Jr's are as versatile as any cabinets are versatile.
I know that the Whappo Jr is a favorite with Thunderfunk but I saw that same video on the 2006 Bowlus GTG of the TFB550B with the Epi UL310. That tone definitely blew my socks off too!
It just seemed to have the right mix of warmth, punch, and articulation (and phat the whole time). The TBF750A with an Epi UL410 II would seem to biggie size this rig in a good way. I like the Eden WT800B with my UL410 II but there is something about the voicing (a little nasally or boxy sometimes) which means it probably won't be my permanent head. I've got a few under consideration including the Markbass LMII and F1, Gallien Krueger 1001RB II, and Genz Benz 750 or Shuttle 6.0 but I keep coming back to the Thunderfunk TFB750A. At $1700 it's the most expensive by far but quality doesn't come cheap. Dave offers a 1 week trial but I'd be interested in hearing about anyone's experience with the TFB750A/Epi UL410(II) combo.
guess i'm the odd man out, but the TF w/ the epifani stuff just doesnt get me. the TFB is rather middy rich, and the epifani UL series has alot of mids to begin with, so them coupled together makes for a really well, middy muddy sound!
the accugroove stuff sounds stupendous w/ the TFB heads. the whappo jr. and tri112 i've heard w/ my old TFB was pretty awesome. balanced one another out incredibly well, and made alot of use of the TFB's EQ.
same is true w/ my old acme b2. again, the neutral sounds of the acme really loved the middy punch of the TFB head, despite being juuuuust enough wattage to make the acmes come alive. and the EQ really allowed me to shape a whole mess of different sounds.
on the totally opposite spectrum, i loved how a left turn of the TFB's timbre knob really mellowed out the super aggressive voicing of the schroeder while also allowing just the right frequencies of that aggro schroeder sound to come thru.

I have been using Aggy GS112s.. but what i really loved is my older Bagend custom D215-BD. the 2x15 Bagend... i think bagend only made two of them .... but which i just sold... great huge sounding yet bright for 15 style cab..
I would go with the epifani ul30s2 as well, it sounds beautiful with the tf550. I can't say enough about thunderfunk and epifani, both are amazing products and you won't be dissapointed.
