TI Flats

I played at band rehearsal last night using my new (old) TI flats.
At rehearsal I have this old 1820 Peavey cabinet (18" and 210's) I use there. It works but it's not ideal for the tone I like. Though I do bring the same head I use on gigs. But that old cab just is dull no matter what I use with it.
I am never happy with my tone at practice, but it's just practice. Well, last night was no different. I really hated my sound using the TI flats...even more than normal. It was so dull and lacked...well, everything.
Just for the heck of it, I played through my gig rig again after I got home. Sure enough, it sounded great again.
So for those judging the TI flats, I definitely think the bass you play on and the rig you play through makes a big difference. My gig rig is very articulate and mid voiced and it may make the difference in how I feel about these strings, as I've taken them off basses in the past when I used different rigs, but I love them now.

I used to use them and found that in addition to being very middy, they lost their top end after about three months and lacked the flatwound thump that gives a bass it's powerful tone. Too clear for me maybe? I can see why many bass players coming from RW's might like them though as they do not sound like normal flatwounds, are much more trebly when new or when first put back on a bass after sitting around for a while. They are great for basses with weak pickups though as they put out more sound than most strings. I use Chromes med gauge usually now.
Well im sorry to have to say this but im giving up on the TI's (agian).
I think im finding them too dead sounding. I guess i just don't like that sound although i will keep them as spares.

While I prefer Chromes on my J, the TIs sound incredible on my Ric. Whoever described them as "articulate" sure hit the nail on the head.
I really like my Chromes but am tempted by the TIs. Problem is it's really expensive to try it out only to find that I don't like it. How would you compare the two?
I have never tried the TI's myself but have heard from others that they sound similar to the chromes , im very tempted to try them myself
Well, I've done the same thing. I just have too many songs that need that super bright roundwound sizzle.
However, I WILL put them on another bass (P-Bass) as I really need to have two basses. Swapping strings out every so often is getting aggravating.
The problem is not the strings I use, but the fact that I only have one bass I use and the other (the P-Bass) is apart and in need of a refinish job. When that is put back together, the TI's are going on that and then I'll have what I need when I want it.
I also use only one bass and my desision was the same as yours.
I also have a spare bass at home Its a HW-1 jazz with a HW-One P neck. I dont use it much but the TI's will go on that.
I will use them live again at some point but for now im going back to Fender 150's
