Ticketmaster officials testify before the Senate

I'm glad this thread is surviving and everyone's being good and tasteful.

In trying to keep that up, I'll add that: Stubhub may be the pox upon concertgoing that helps Ticketmaster keep getting away with their ********. I went to buy a ticket for Cory Wong and the Wongnotes last weekend, and the first link in search went to Stubhub...and while Stubhub had semi-decent prices, their fees added literally $25-30 extra to the total. A friend told me that didn't sound right, so I went to the CW&tWn website, found a link direct to Ticketmaster, and after their ******** fees, still paid OVER $30 less than the Stubhub original.

shag Ticketmaster, but even more, shag Stubhub in both ears. They're making it harder for us to press for change by catering to the leech/scalper market, thus making the fleecing by existing ticket retailers seem more "reasonable". It angers me to even think about.
If you haven't seen Cory before, he always puts on a fun show. And the band kills.

If you wait for everything to be perfect to tackle non emergency issues nothing will ever get done
I agree with this.

Sometimes it can be too easy to say, "there are worse things" and "there are more important things" while other concerns are ignored. And those ignored concerns often become "worse" or "more important" things if they are not dealt with.

First, great move on your dad's part to have been taking you. Definitely sad he didn't get to follow through. My parents never made that offer and said "no concerts" until I was 18. I did save all 26 KISS tickets over the years though.

These are the only Kiss tickets I have saved from over the years

My dad went to the one from 1987. He also went to the Reunion Tour in 96. He always wanted to see Kiss in makeup, remembering me as a kid loving them in the 1970's. It was good he got to see them in makeup before he passed away.

Reactions: WI Short Scaler
There's a good daily live program on YouTube that's interviewing some knowledgeable people about this right now. "Senate Skewers TicketMaster w/ Moe Tkacik, Krista Brown"

I won't share the link here because p*****, as if matters such as these ever have nothing to do with public policy and law, AKA, p*****.

Justin Hawkins evidently watched the program I referenced above.

The only real solution is two fold: 1. Break up Ticketmaster AND LiveNation, and 2. Re-criminalize scalping for anything more than $20 over face value. Shut down StubHub et al immediately, allowing only the "Cash or Trade" model with minimal/modest service charges. What these sites do was illegal for decades for a good reason.

In a perfect world, I'd love to see brick and mortar venue box offices open for 2hrs before any on-line/out of market sales go live. Put the purchase power back into the hands of real local fans willing to camp out.

That's why they have committees. They can split up the work and focus on different things. Multi-Tasking for the "win".
And those committees assemble a 'task force' of former gov't pukes (with nothing to lose) at professional consultant fee rates to tell committee members what the committee members lack the nerve to tell the public yet, always seem to campaign on "courage", "bravery", and the best; "standing tall" in the face of some (at the time) controversial thingy.

Their new algorithm and premium seat designations have caused me to lose more interest. I got presale code on a recent concert and every decent seat was gone by the time I could see what the price was. Finally had to just bite the bullet and grab some. Find out later the left overs were as cheap if not cheaper because the algorithm ran the prices up in the presale itself.

Have never had a good opportunity early at a good seat for decent price. I'm nearly done with going to arenas and ampitheators. Way too much money spent for okay seats at best and the headache of fighting traffic and large crowds.
I gave up any any show only available through ticketmaster and their network of scalpers.
