tight E string on epi rivoli

hi! the reason I'm posting is because lately I discovered that the E string on my epiphone rivoli RI is running in very low tension, and I would like it tighter to get a more defined sound. I use flatwounds, and I have very little experience with string lenghts and types because I live in a non-musical place (buenos aires)

any help?

try using a heavier guage string, that usually helps.

You sure it doesn't just feel "loose" because it's on a short scale bass????

no, definitely not...I've been dealing with short scale basses since I learned to play so I don't think that's the problem...

by using a heavier gauge you mean a ''bigger'' string?

what about acoustic bass strings?

Ok, well I wasn't generalizing, I just had an Epi I used to string flats, and I had noticed a slight loose E with GHS flats, but Rotosound flats had a nice taut feel. I always used longscale strings on mine, but in the end I went back to roundwounds because i wanted a bit more edge....

What brands do you have access to in your area?

mmm...I can manage to find Rotosounds, Fender, LaBella and all that stuff the thing is I have to order them and that's a pretty expensive option...I always wanted to try Rotosound trubass tapewounds (the black ones), so I'm in constant search for those...

what about setting the action a little higher? would that help?

Meh, I wouldn't if overall you like how it plays now...I do recall mine taking a while to "settle in" from adjustments...and I don't think it'd be an overall benefit... nice that flats last practically forever, and tapewounds doubly so...so I think tho it'd be a $ hit $ initially, I think you'd do well with the Rotosounds...

it's a really crappy situation since I really like how the bass plays and the action/tension on the other three strings feels awesome...so, I guess I'll just have to experiment with heavier gauges...
