I have been a Switchfoot fan from their first CD Legend of Chin. One of my all time favorite bass riffs to warm up on is "Innocence Again" from their Learning to Breathe CD.

To be honest I haven't followed their stuff since "Nothing is Sound", but I will always credit Tim to being one of the reasons why I picked up the bass (he has always had an awesome tone).

Yeah he is always going for a really "big" sound the perfect mix of warth and clarity, also a very vocal orientated playing style. Lots of interaction between what is being sung and the bass lines.

Also, Tim has the perfect mix of playing what is needed not too simple, not too complex.

I'm currently in a Switchfoot "phase", Tim's playing might be simple, but he has some nice little lines here and there. My favorite line of his is probably in "Oh Gravity", super fun to play.

They all get a ton of their effects from JHS pedals. They hand make all if their pedals. I live close to where the shop is and have a bunch of their pedals. Not cheap but super high quality. I especially reccomend the jhs low drive for your first one if your gunna buy some. It's sweet!
