now I'm looking back and wondering why I said his bass lines were no good... I must've been in a weird mood; the bass lines on Oh! Gravity are so incredibly tasteful.

I've been listening to Switchfoot since before there first album came out. I got a pre-release cassette of Legend Of Chin from someone i new who worked at their label. I have seen them like 5 times but not recently. Tim was a super melodic player back in the day, but once they started working with steve lillywhite, his playing got a little more standard, but it's still great. He has great feel and awesome tone. He is the reason I bought my Decade bass.
Listen to "Love is A Movement" off of their learning to breathe album and tell me he's not a solid bass player. Love it.
Which Album(s) Lilywhite involved with? I had always wondered why his playing changed so much. Especially on "Hello Hurricane" sometimes he is verging on being pedestrian.
Gravity and Stars are two great bass lines. Most of the songs on Hello Hurricane have some tasteful lines as well. He was definitely an inspiration to me when I started playing.
I'm quite a fan. Haven't listened to Hello Hurricane much, but everything up to that got at least a few spins from me. One of my personal favorite lines of his is "Yesterdays" off of Oh! Gravity. Great line.
Looking foward to the next album, its meant to be a major change in there sound. More bass???? Who knows, sit tight people.
I actually started playing bass after listening to the bass in stars.he's a great bassist. I hope there's more bass on vice verses though.
I think one of the band said in a interview that the next album is going to be more rhythm section orientated.
thats sad. I still HOPE there's more technical bass though. but check out the bonus cd (building a hurricane). "tim's unused bridge" shows SOME of his old self, and also in take 7 from july '08 of needle and haystack life especially.

Thanks for putting me onto that will have to get that Cd, I think his more meldoic side is still present in Hello Hurricane especially on yet. However, I know what you mean some songs are very "straight ahead" for my tastes.
Anybody here excited for Switchfoot's new album "Vice Verses" coming out on the 27th of September??
Just listened to "dark horses" and am very excited, there is some insane bass/drum action on that track.

Mammogram is down but I'm working manually
Great seeing the love for a San Diego band. Very supportive of the local scene and friends that know them have nothing but the nicest things to say about them. They have a studio up the street from me I believe and have their own surfing contest. Just a great band. I'd love to see them on a bill with Foo Fighters and Sponge, but that's just me.
Dark horses has some TASTY lines. saw them in concert last week: I don't think we'll be dissapointed in Tim's work
Finish listening to "Vice Verses" and what can I say simply phenominal bass work throughout. He really has taken things to another level.
Just saw switchfoot in London. All I can say is wow, they were on fire. I had a good view of Tim for most of the gig it was fasinating seeing him play the basslines I have laboured on over the years. Super groove, ultra tight and he makes it all look effortless.
