He's not lying. Playing along with a recording can be misleading because it acts as your metronome. Play stuff by yourself to see how accurate your note values are.

yeah man, as a long time player with lots of influences from back in the day, I have been paying attention to Tim and JMJ and how they approach the bass. Its great to see younger cats digging in to style and technique. Plus Tim seems like he would be a very cool hang ... good energy every time I've seen/heard him interviewed.
