It a sad state of affairs that nearly every sale of a Fender Bass on CL needs to be investigated thoroughly, but the proliferation of impostors is huge apparently. What's great though, is now we (I) have you guys to stop GAS in it's tracks, and add the very valuable community opinion to the appraisal process. (Besides we all like sharing our expertise.) :D

It's kind of like Antiques Road Show - only instead of a Strad, we have Fenders.

Today's offering comes from direct from the mountains of Tennessee...
A red and black P-Bass with (as advertised) origins in Mexico.
The S/N checks out as a 2001 as the seller has stated.
The headstock labels it a "Precision Bass Special".

Currently you can purchase a MIM active version of this with gold pickguard for about 700 bucks on a place that labels itself as our friend. So, if the seller wants half that for a 14yr old version, is that an acceptable expectation?

To place it in context, it is being offered with other items, including an inexpensive Ampeg practice amp, and a Squier Strat of the same era.

So is this a 'value' price for this Fender, an entry-level MIM, or just a Squier Affinity with new decals?

Inquiring minds want to know.

"Threaded saddles?" - It hard to tell from the pix.

"Price is High" - So more like 2 Franklins then?
GAS can be tempered by 'average' deals. It's when a good deal comes along that my GAS acts up. :woot:

I haven't viewed the bass in person; the photos are taken from CL. So the detail is what the seller posted.
It appears to have some age-spots and dings - but it isn't a new bass either.
