Welp... I need tires, guys. and I can save enough to buy some in 3 or 4 checks.

My tire size is 31x10.5... I off-road semi-often, so I need something durable...

When I got my truck a year ago, it had some cosco brand AT's it that aren't too shabby at all.

BFG's seem to be the way to go, though.

Lets say I have $700 to blow on tires.... what do ya'll recommend?

I've got a set of BFG ATA 285's on my truck. They feathered a bit sooner than I would have expected, and they really don't seem to support the weight of my truck as well as I would have liked (have to periodically air them up a bit more than I am used to) but all in all they've done pretty well.

Buddy of mine got a set of Mickey T AT's from tirerack.com and although he got a good deal on them, they didn't last long.

I second the Costco/Walmart thing.....free rotation/balance is important.

Mike, I broke down and put Goodyear Fortenza's on my Pathfinder this year. They are off road rated, but they are EXCELLENT on the road, my ride has actually improved significantly as has my handling. They are 70,000 mile rated and have Kevlar belts. I have never seen a set of tires provide as much improvement as these did, and I have run Generals, Dunlop's and Goodrich's on my two finders before these. They ran just under 600 for the set.

Be real careful dude. I was in the courtroom to testify at a court case when I saw a person get charged for negligent homicide in a car accident case. The biggest piece of evidence the state presented to get the indictment was the fact that person was knowingly driving tires with insufficient tread which the state believed caused the bad weather accident. It is not just unsafe to YOU when your driving a car with bald tires, it is negligibly unsafe to those around you. I'm sure this would apply to knowingly driving a car with bad brakes (much harder to prove). I know it's a pain in the butt when you can't afford it (I remember my college days well) but replacing those tires is definitely a priority.

There are many good tires available now. I would pickup a 4x4 magazine and look at the ads. One thing you must consider is aggressive tread VS road noise VS tread wear.

Usually, the more aggressive the tread, the faster they will wear and the more on road noice they will make. On the other hand, smoother, more quiet riding tires SUCK for going offroad!! I don't drive my Jeep on the highway much and don't really worry THAT MUCH about tire costs. I put more priority on offroad performance. You have to consider your driving habbits and needs. Also, certain tires handle certain terrain much better than others. You have to consider your local terrain. I encounter mud and sugar sand. My tire choice is much different than someone out west that runs mostly on rocks.

i thought they were yokohama?

anyways, it's not a truck, but I got some yokohamas on my accord last year, and they've been great. Dunno how car tire quality translates to truck tire quality (especially since you're doing some offroad), so I'm just throwing 'em out there.

If you're not harcore offroading, you've already picked the right tires.

I put these on my Truck about 40k miles ago

They're rated very highly in all categories. And I think they look pretty sharp too!

I haven't been able to get these off pavement yet, but the tread is still fairly good and I excpect to get 60k from these tires.

We've put the dualer AT's on our trucks before... kick ass tires for sure. they are actually my backup plan.

They're not aggressive off-road but they've been very good a both an on and off combo. They're definitely far better than the General Grabbers and then the Yokohama Geolander HT/S tires that I've had before these. Pretty grippy for what they are.

Brad and Mike, I've run the Rovers (Dunlop) and Generals and they were OK but these Fortenza's (Goodyear) I'm running now are in another league, and irronically they are the highest rated SUV milage tires ( 70000 Warrenty). Usually high millage tires don't grip or ride as good but these have been exceptional. In between my two Pathfinders I have put 391,000 miles in all kinds of terrain and conditions including some nasty two tracks in N. Ontario. So far I am duley impressed. My Rovers wore forever, they just rode like crap and were extreamly noisy.
